-pops-
spider.exe is a trojan and can compromise your computer's security.Someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon but, in the meantime, look on our Security pages and instal and run a squared (a²), Spybot S&D and Ad-aware.http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.php?showforum=

We hope you will visit often - not always with problems :) There are experts on all sorts of computer aspects and problems here and it is very unusual for us not to be able to fix any problems that are thrown this way. spikeychris
Just to state the obvious, spider.exe is also a legit app. Type it into run.....Why are you trying to get rid of the file? Are you receiving an error?
andsome
WELCOME to WF. As pops says we have quite a few clever clogs on the forum, and no doubt your problem will get sorted.

-pops-
I wouldn't have expected a request to remove the legitimate spider.exe. Oh well! We've not had a response from GunsRoses so it's perhaps all bye the bye.
spikeychris
-pops- your post makes total sense, I was just complicating matters. B)
nellie2
As far as I'm aware the legitimate spider.exe resides in the system32 folder, but it shouldn't be running at startup.I would need to look at a hijack log or have GunsRoses explain why he wants rid of it
GunsRoses
I have a unbreakable habit that is always to startup and playing this game whenever I use my computer for working, and it took me a lot of time wastefully! So I just wish to rid of it as soon as possible. How?Why have Microsoft forced us of this unnecessary software?May I have to use another OS? Because my question seems to be such a difficult problem! But I still hope of your helping...
-pops-
I have a unbreakable habit Therapy?Seriously, if it is the Windows game you are concerned about, be very careful in trying to remove it. Much mischief can be caused by unjudicious removal of components integral to the Windows O/S, even if they do seem to be just add-ons. scuzzman
If you really wish to be rid of it, simply delete it, and remove the shortcut in your start menu. But, as -pops- suggests, this could lead to adverse effects, although I don't know what... GunsRoses
Can you show me concretely about the damages will be happened if this file be removed?Therapy was the first matter I think of, but I can't!scuzzman's idea is not able to be succeed
-pops-
I don't know the consequences of removing this file and I'm not aware of anyone who has had a problem such that they want to remove it :( I do know that removing, or trying to remove, other files which seem to be Windows add-ons such as Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, System Restore and others can result in a system that will not boot up due to essential files missing. It would be far better for you to try and overcome this desire unless, of course, you want to risk wrecking your computer. andsome
Why bother to remove it, it can't be taking up much space on the hard drive?
pwp
it should be ok to remove as all the comps where i work have the games removed.i have a slightly different problem, on my new comp it does not show inthestart menu of recently used progs and i have to go search for it. GunsRoses
The component file have been deleted. Thanks all.To Tony : You are really a Windows applied talent!
spikeychris
Ahh but now that you know how to delete the game you also know how to re-install it! If you want to go cold turkey (festive gag) then how about this..1. Start / Run / Copy+Paste the next line into the RUN box and press enter:notepad %SystemRoot%\Inf\Sysoc.inf2. Scroll down until you find the line that reads: Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7Add the word 'HIDE' to the line so it now reads: Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,HIDE,7After you have done the above type inf into run then find sysoc and right click it, select properties and security and deselect yourself from permissions. The above will work but I dont advise you to do it. Infact.....please don't ;)
andsome
Saying here's how to do it but DON'T to some people is asking for trouble.
spikeychris
Its an option but one that should be carefully thought out as the notepad file contains more than just the option of hiding Windows games. andsome you are probably right [pains me to say] but I cant help but play.......
