deuces wild Posted January 20, 2005 Report Share Posted January 20, 2005 We have a small herd of deer (4 to 6) pass through our yard every morning in search of food. They eat my wife's plants during the warm weather months and scavage for food in the winter. Although beautiful to look at they are destructive and the cause of many car accidents. Our fault though as we have forced these creatures out of their natural habitat with the building of housing and industrial complexes. Some folks cannot understand why we allow hunting of these creatures, thinking it is cruel. With no predators and the deer forced out of *their* habitat they have over-populated. Hunting with dogs, as in the UK, however is barbaric, and I cannot understand anyone actually getting pleasure from chasing animals to their death with a pack of baying hounds. Wait till you see my pictures this summer of Lake Erie and the islands.We live about 15 miles west of the main city (Cleveland) in Avon Lake. The area was rural but is quickly becoming residential. They don't have quills they have spines.... they can move quite fast when they want too but seem to have a death wish when it comes to roads. I'm always seeing flattened hedgehogs on our roads.
