deuces wild Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 We are now seeing gasonline prices of $2/gallon here in the States, with prices to rise to $2.50/gallon soon....this was from an average cost of $1.75/gallon over the past few months.If my calculations are correct $2/gallon USD equates to $4.46/gallon when compared to the Brittish Pound Sterling and converting gallons to liters.I guess we have nothing to complain about if my calculations are correct. :blink: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

andsome Posted March 4, 2005 Report Share Posted March 4, 2005 What really annoys me is that this is probably the highest price in Europe, coupled to the fact that we pay the highest road fund licence in Europe, and have recently opened the first toll motorway, with more planned. True, other European countries have more toll roads, but other motoring taxes are lower. I understand that France has no road fund licence tax at all.RIP OFF BRITAIN IN ACTION. There is a tax on gasoline that goes towards the Highway Trust Fund, a fund used for the maintenance and repair of federal and state highways. Local roads are repaired and maintained by the city, with the revenue coming from city income tax.We have city income tax, state income tax, federal income tax, gasoline tax, liquor tax, real estate tax, hotel tax, social security (tax) and sales tax (around 7% here in Ohio). nellie2 Posted March 4, 2005 Report Share Posted March 4, 2005 Well we have a tax on petrol too... plus we have income tax and National Insurance and VAT, there is also something called stamp duty (real estate tax to you) and alcohol and tobacco are taxed.What did I forget folks? Oh yes there is something called inheritance tax... if you leave more than £263.000 to your reletives when you die then it is taxed at 40% If however you try to give your assets away before you die then as long as you stay alive for seven years the gift is only taxed at 20% or something like that. :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
