Chris
You won't find Pamela Anderson's new release at your local multiplex--the former Baywatch star and longtime animal advocate's latest project is "Kentucky Fried Cruelty," an undercover exposé blowing the whistle on the cruel treatment of animals at KFC's factory farm and slaughterhouse suppliers. The video details just how horribly KFC treats chickens—birds are so crippled that they can't even walk, live birds are forced into tanks of scalding-hot water while completely conscious and able to feel pain, and Moorefield, W.Va., slaughterhouse workers kill birds by slamming them against the wall and stomping on them.Cruelty
andsome
GOOD FOR HER. I could never become a veggie, but we are fussy where our meat comes from. We always buy pasture raised beef, and free range organic chickens, fed only on corn and seed and what they forage for themselves in the field where they are raised. andsome
I'll join that as long as they are raised and slaughtered in a humane manner.
deuces wild
I would not give that PETA/Pam Anderson commentary full credibility. I am sure the health department checks up on them. And who knows how a chicken feels?

dadyassa
This is not new, when i first left school 47 years ago i worked for a heating firm and we did a job on a chicken farm.We had to make heating grids like huge flat towel rails on flexible connections, so that as the chicks grew the grid could be raised to suit their height. They were kept in artificial light all the time. When they were slaughtered their feet were put in an elastic band and hung upside down on a hook on a conveyor belt and their throats slit as they made their way to the plucker's and gutters and soon to end up at bootifuls factory, and turned into nuggets etc.
andsome
Why do so many restaurants offer these nuggets, absolutely filled with water and chemicals, alongside burgers and cheap sausages, as kids menu? We have walked out of places and gone elsewhere, when we have been refused a small portion of what we were eating for our granddaughter. -pops-
Ever noticed on supermarket chickens that there are often dark marks on what remains of their legs? This is due to the bird being made to grow so fast, by being pumped full of growth stimulents, that its legs are unable to support its weight so the bird has to grovel about in its own (and other birds) excrement. This faecal mass is constantly fermenting producing, amongst other things, ammonia and is very alkaline. These brown marks are chemical burns. If the feet were left on for sale they would be so corroded you would never buy a supermarket chicken again - or go a chicken eating house. At the processing plant, the workers are provided with scrapers to remove these discoloured parts. Rarely do they have time to do it though. If you insist on buying supermarket chickens, look carefully for these marks and for signs of them being scraped away.(I get my chickens from the farm down the road where I've seen them wandering about the fields and eating what they want to eat - worms and all)

dadyassa
That was why they were kept in artificial light, it was switched off twice a day to make two days out of one, to make them grow quicker. In Spain its different cos they sell the chickens with everything on, head feet etc, you can get the butcher to cut them off and gut it. deuces wild
What proof can you offer that a chicken can even feel pain? My grandmother used to tell me about the chickens and turkeys she killed for dinner with an ax or knife across the throat. The darn things would run around for a minute or so without heads. So the wing flapping you see in the video is natural. The industry is at least trying to act humanely by stunning the chickens before letting them bleed to death. How many of you have ever been to a slaughter house? I have and it is not a pretty sight. It is however, necessary so the masses can be fed. The animals are also put to death in a far more human way then they used to, stunning them electronically before cutting their throats.PETA has caused far more harm than good. They have admitted to funding terrorist organizations (ELF and ALF), assaulted business owners, torched buildings housing test labs using animals and have personally assaulted individuals wearing animal fur. They are against fishing and hunting. They want all animals to be set free and live without restrictions. They want to tell you what you should eat and not eat. These folks are absolutely nuts.I am all for the proper treatment of animals but sometimes folks attribute human emotions to animals in trying to justify a position. God put them here for a reason. Some are pets, some are transportation, some are laborers, some are food.
djohn
I agree deuces that organizations such as PETA often have their own hidden agenda, so I won't venture into that area, but I think even the people who still enjoy eating meat & Poultry [Myself included] will be upset, even distraught at the methods used in that video.I'm no stranger to the sight of blood, stomach is not easily turned, but those scenes did affect me. As pops mentions in his post, there are other ways of raising then the slaughter of feed animals that are far more humane, for the want of a better word. :(
deuces wild
You need to visit a slaughter house. The treatment of these animals is as humane as possible when dealing with mass processing. The video purposely exaggerates as evidenced by their showing dead chickens with wings still flapping saying they are still alive. The accuracy of the remaining video is therefore suspect, especially when considering who produced it.
-pops-
Even ignoring the ethical (?) aspects, the (possible) cruelty and the gross inhygiene of living in their own faeces (remember Mrs curry and her outburst?)of mass produced chicken meat, the chickens I eat do actually taste of food rather than something like I think wet toilet paper would taste like.Similarly with the pig meat I eat. That also comes from a local farm as does the beef and sheep meat.Perhaps I'm fortunate in being old enough to remember my grandparents keeping pigs and, as a child, watching the creatures being killed and "processed".I stated that perhaps I'm fortunate to have experienced these things and I know damned well that I'm lucky to live in the back of beyond and be able to obtain real food, despite the drawbacks of frequent powercuts, phone lines blowing down and so on.
