Hope it wasn't in that draughty monument on top of Penshaw hill. Looks a bit Greek to me.

It was about three-quarters of a mile from the Monument Doug, down in the village. You are quite right though it is modelled on the Parthenon in Athens, about one fifth scale I think. It was erected in 1844 by the Freemasons of Fatfield to commemorate the Earl of Durham's return from Canada as first Governor of Canada but was unfinished because they ran out of funds. The Monument was supposed to be surmounted by a gigantic stone horse mounted with the Earl of Durham. A statue of this can be found in the Market Square in Durham City.

Forgot to mention, my old school was Handsworth Technical College in Birmingham.

Andsome & Expertec if you know the Birmingham area you will know George Dixons Grammar School in City Road which I attended from 1960-1965,sadly this is now a comprehensive, then on to Matthew Boulton Technical College for an electrical apprentaship.

I remember them well. My sister went to Grove Lane girls school. Prior to going to Handsworth Technical I went to Rookery Road School. My infant and junior school was Boulton Road. I was born in Victoria road Handsworth.
