Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1

To date I haven't installed this particular gem from Windows update.

What am I missing ?

Does it have any known problems ?

I have it installed because a freebie graphics program (paint.net) I have requires it. I have it on an old machine as well as a remnant of the days when I used DriveImage.

I just sits there doing nothing most of the time - apart from take up hard drive space - it's big.

Doesn't cause any problems.

You don't need it unless an application requires it!

Or unless you're a developer Boris in that case you shouldn't be making threads like this :P

The Framework allows applications to get bag loads of memory so don't assume it's a resource hog [the app, not the framwork].

Anyway, if you managed this long without it!!!

I needed it for Microsoft's Universal Flash Drive Manager. Haven't used it other than that.

It may change the behaviour of your Windows login; I remember an old thread where 'andsome complained that it made him login with userid & password.

I think more and more apps are being developed for .NET framework, so sooner or later everybody will need it. (One of the next apps using .NET framework will be RegScrubXP 4.0).

This is why since my latest Windows install that I have NOT downloaded this update. I remember that someone posted a way of getting round this logging on business, but I cannot remember it. Until I cannot run as I want to without it, I won't be downloading it again.

P.S. I sincerely hope that RegScrub XP will NOT be needing this download, I use it regularly.

Actually, logging into an Administrator account with a strong password is a good practice, as it gives you an additional layer of protection. Not against your family members :) but against possible intrusions from the outside. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer will give you a stern warning :angry: if you have no or a weak password on any Administrator accounts.
