andsome Posted August 13, 2005 Author Report Share Posted August 13, 2005 I see what you mean now andsome.I think that red warning has been there for as long as I have been a member but I may be wrong :unsure: Anyway the good news is that the tracking cookies are all blocked!They are blocked on my computer too, but some members may not be aware that the site is doing this, and I think that it is wrong for a computer magazine that claims to help people with security, should attempt to download third party cookies. We've all been experiencing difficulties recently - as you would have realised, had you bothered to read any of the four or five threads that are running on the subject. Strange as it might seem to you, this site is incredibly complex behind the scenes, and with thousands of people online at any one time - all clicking threads and posts - it takes some delving to sort out problems like the one with slow-loading posts. We have a highly-qualified and extremely hard-working team on the job, but there isn't just one web site to take care of - we have over a dozen of them running in the European division of the group. If you think you can do a better job email me immediately with a copy of your CV - otherwise perhaps you'll bear with us, we're very sorry to have been the cause of such irritation.Also the Editor closed the post so I could not reply to his answer. -pops- Posted August 13, 2005 Report Share Posted August 13, 2005 How well I remember that sarcastic tone adopted by Peter Thomas when he is slightly miffed.Meanwhile eBay continues to get 80,000 new signups per day and runs as smooth as the proverbial faeces off a spade except, of course, for half an hour or so on a Friday morning when they do their maintenance but that's only a minor hiccup and the site does still work.Even if the eBay signups are only one tenth of what is claimed, it makes the efforts of PCA (and their subsidiaries) look rather pathetic. From what I've been told, it isn't the slowness of the site that's irritiating the users, it's a load of very long and meaningless messages that are constantly being displayed after waiting an age for anything to happen. I have sent the FE an e-mail concerning the tracking cookies that the site is attempting to download onto members computers. So far I don't have a reply. I will let you know if I get one. Tankus Posted August 15, 2005 Report Share Posted August 15, 2005 Well PCA have had some iffy servers ever since I first went there ...plus they've had a serious clear-out .....probably to make room on their Amstrad tape drive .......arf .........as my oldest post on there is now Jan 2003...and one page ...post lounge if I remember .......several thousand deleted ...arf the only constant is Peter ..except he wasn't an employee then Seems to me they are a commercial concern ....and does it say anywhere ..that they are impartial ......or non finance driven.....? Talking about the (PCA) lounge ....the Pitstop has just had its GD temporarily suspended last night ...... heh.... I guess it happens to every technical support place that has a social area ... A couple of attachments showing PCA headers were enclosed. My reply to this was, that the cookies I am referring to have no relation to PCA headers as I can see the headers despite my security being set to block such cookies. Indeed, the security summary of the cookies states that they are tracking cookies. In my reply I enclosed a copy of the summary. I will let you know if and when I get an answer to this.
