catgate
I was just sitting here in "the snug" browsing the latest offerings on the forum, and I happened, for no special reason to glance to my left...into the kitchen. I spotted the kettle (you know one of those fancy things that boils water) and I thouight to my self "That just looks like Margaret Midgley! " Then I suddenly realised that I do not, nor ever have, know anyone called Margeret Midgley. I find this very worrying. I would therefore be very pleased if anyone who does know a Margaret Midgley could tell me if she looks like a kettle. Ours is a Kenwood SK950, but I do not expect an exact match. Craig
I have the same problem, but think this Margaret Midgley looks like my logitech MX1000 mouse.Again, i do not know this person.
catgate
I have the same problem, but think this Margaret Midgley looks like my logitech MX1000 mouse.Again, i do not know this person. This business gets more curious as it goes on, because I once actually knew a girl called Maureen Knowles and she did not look anything like a mouse, Logitech or any other make. Very wierd. Mind you that was 60 years ago, and at that time there were few about.
djohn
Just looking at my kettle catgate, it appears I may have her twin sister. Let me know and we can arrange for them to meet up sometime. :ninja:

But, does this sudden rush make you believe that you know the whereabouts of Margaret Midgley.
Gandalph
Funny that, but after I typed the above reply I decided to do a Google search for Margaret Midgley, (I'll help catgate out I thought). Now the thing is there were 115000 entries under that name one of them http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classic...rgaretmidgeley/ and another I noticed in Halifax. Could the one in Halifax have known Entwhistle the poet I wonder, him being from around that area.

andsome
I have found a photo of some other family members, and friends at work. Margaret is not on it, as she was holding the camera..
Thos
I have found a photo of some other family members, and friends at work. Margaret is not on it, as she was holding the camera..There is a clear family resemblance there. I am not sure if we are seeking Midgelys who look like kettles or kettles who look like Midgelys. Didn't Edna Everage have an assistant called Margaret Midgley, called Madge for short. And how did Maureen Knowles slink into this conversation?Congrats, Catgate, you picked a corker for your 1000th post.Thos.
andsome
Trust one of the Midgleys to be holding the jug. They were well know for being a boozy family. This was well before the days of electric kettles of course.
sapins
I'm sure there was a Miss Midgley who taught domestic science at our school in the Fifties! perhaps that why she looks like a kettle.Mind you if she had taught French she could have looked like a French Maid which would have solved the truancy problem at a stroke. catgate
I have found a photo of some other family members, and friends at work. Margaret is not on it, as she was holding the camera..I think this may be the answer.I copied the photographic attachment to file, printed it and loooked through the back of the photograph. Many of those old steam traction engines had names, like Victorious, Hero, Prince, Doris etc. Well, these name plates were usually at the side of the boiler and on the photograph when viewed from the angle of the photographer, the plate is hidden by men and whiskers, but ot the reverse of the picture it is quite clearly "Margaret".The only problem I am now left with is should I take our kettle back and complain about them selling us a kettle that looks like a traction engine. However I am still left with the Maureen Knowles problem . We were once almost married...... but only from the waist down!

catgate
I feel I owe all you kind people, who have tried to help, a humble apology. The name was Womersley. Her mother was an ample woman side ways, but vertically challenged. She was in the Salvation Army as a tambourinist. Sadly they had to provide a tall stool for her to stand on, because she used to wear out tambourines faster than they could replace them, through her scraping them on the floor during frenzied flourishing. On day she fell of her perch and transfered to the St Johns Ambulance Brigade. During the earliy 1940s she got mixed up with a local ladies group who were knitting comforters for the merchant navy men manning the Arctic convoys to Murmansk. One day her husband came home, from the POM foundry, to see a heap of writhing knitting on the floor. She had knit herself firmly into a large white seaboot sock and he had to "pull it back" to the heel to let her out so that she could make his tea.Times was 'ard then.
