Thos
My wife and I have tickets to go and see the live telecast of The Des and Mel show today. It goes out on ITV at 1330hrs. Although it isn't an audience participation show, if there are shots of the audience, we are both wearing red sweaters! It is a chat show where guests plug their latest offering, book, show, record or whatever. I believe that Girls Aloud are plugging their latest ( I will be the fella trying to get the best view with his tongue out and eyes bulging!) and Jimmy Osmond will be talking about andsome's favourite programme (Celebrity Jungle). But an interesting guest should be Dennis Lawson. His serial, Bleak House, is probably the best thing on UK TV at the moment.I find live shows are usually interesting and I am hoping that this one is OK too.Thos. Thos
Just a report back on this outing.Like all things in TV all was not what it seemed. I had asked for and was assured I would get tickets for the live show. In the event Des & Mel only goes out live on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Thursday show is pre-recorded on Tuesday evenings and the Friday one on Wednesday evenings, But they are transmitted as though they are live.So although I was told it was to be live, in fact the show with Girls Aloud etc. was already "in the can". When we got there and settled in the studio we found that we were there to see a recording of a show to be transmitted after Christmas, I think on 27th December. It was a modest offering to say the least. Bradley Walsh stood in for Des O'Connor and one of the guests, Jamie Cullem, did his stuff on videotape (recorded some weeks before). But the real con is within the programme itself. The presenters had the cheek to read out e-mails and phone calls from listeners (you know the sort of thing--"Jim from Leicester tells us") about disasters which befell them on Christmas Day. The turkey hadn't defrosted and had to be hacked into pieces and microwaved and so on. And all the time everyone was aware that Christmas was still 9 days away. There you go. you get what you pay for and in this case we paid nothing!Thos. Thos
My wife and I used to be regular attendees at The Terry & Gaby Show which went out live at midday every weekday on Channel 5. We got to know the production crew well and as there were only a few score in the audience we were always looked after and treated well.It was produced by Chris Evans' production company, UMTV and was very informal. It was disappointing to us when it was finally pulled but the "do" after the last show was enjoyable. I have posted one or two piccies in the gallery of my wife and myself there.Thos.ps. just in case you have no idea, the Terry & Gaby are Terry (now Sir Terry) Wogan and Gaby Roslin.
