You know the sort, all of a sudden your desktop gets hijacked or you get mad pop ups telling you that your system is infected and the only way to deal with it is to buy their program.I'm talking about the likes of Spyaxe, Winfixer, SpywareStrike and so on.I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but a friend of mine, Nick, has been waging a campaign to get people to complain about this, after all, a crime is being committed. You can see what he has to say about it in his blog Fight Back Against SpyaxeHe asked if there was some similar organisation in the UK to the FTC in America... I've looked into this and there doesn't seem to be. This prompted me to get in touch with my Member of Parliament who I saw yesterday. However think back to your 1st few forays onto the web, before you discovered Spybot, Adaware, Spywareblaster et al, then realise the nasties have probably increased tenfold? in the last 12mths. When I started surfing the net, it was very difficult as you were on CPM or DOS, it wasn't truly the net just a collection of 'Bulletin Boards' really. so there were not many spy or ad ware programs about.Would you like to be starting to surf the net Now as a newcomer ?I think all newcomers should take time to find out about the possible pitfalls of surfing the net before attempting to try. I get fed up telling people to disable Windows Messenger and trying to explain that it isn't going to stop them sending banal messages over their instant messaging service.
