When I try to watch artists film link and also some others, I get a popup saying a quicktime plugin is missing. Do you want to download the plugin ?.

When i aswer yes it tries to download ipod . exe 35mb, some plugin, considering I already have quicktime installed.

What has the ipod software got to do with watching the film clip ?

But anyway, iTunes can be uninstalled easily from Add/Remove programs without losing QT.

It would probably take out the plugin again ?

I will take out Quicktime and use andsomes link.

Following a suggestion from pops, I uninstalled Quicktime and downloaded Quicktime Alternative. It is a very small download, and is NOT intrusive and I never have ANY bother playing Arists or anyone elses Quicktime links.

Quicktime Alternative

Cheers andsome and pops, I will give it a try ;)

Also on Google you willfind Real Player alternative. You can then get rid of yet another intrusive bloated program.

I do agree with andsome's suggestion, i have been using that software for the last 4 years or so, with out any problems, until yesterday, i wanted to play a sneak preview of a film that is coming out soon, and it would not play until i downloaded the latest Quick Time :(

OK i am not one for watching movie previews that often, so i can uninstall Quick Time if i wish, which i will probably do once it starts to annoy me. which it always has done in the past.

You know I'm suprised by the comments in this thread about Quicktime and Realplayer Alternatives and of course you're free to use whatever software you wish. But have any of you considered that you don't understand the software that you are using?

Realplayer [the proper one] is easily manageable.

Quicktime can be stopped from automatically starting.

...And there is a...

Apple - QuickTime - Download - Standalone QuickTime Player Which itself is 20MB but I think that's because Apple include much of the stuff to make it work than relying on Windows resources.

Everytime I tried to stop Quicktime from loading at startup it just put itself back there... plus I don't like programs that insist you have to install a load of stuff you don't want.

I'm quite happy with the QT alternative thanks

That is exactly my experience too.
