A wonderful daughter

Yesterday, 'Er indoors told me that we were invited to her friends house for a birthday drink, so I duly made a birthday card for her. By 6-15pm I was all dressed up ready to go, birthday card in hand, when the doorbell went. It was my daughter. She said "OK dad, jokes over, you have to come out with me to look at your potential birthday present to see if you would like it". I reminded her that my birthday isn't until April, but she said that I had to see what she had in mind and tell her if it was OK. We duly set out in her car, after several miles I asked where the devil we were going, she just smiled and said to wait. When we entered Birmingham half an hour later I cottoned on and said, "we aren't going to Symphony Hall are we"? "Yup, but I'm not telling you what's on" was the reply. I couldn't believe my luck when it turned out to be Symphony No 2, The Resurrection by Gustav Mahler, my favourite music by my favourite composer. It was a memorable evening, and I don't think I have ever had such a marvellous surprise. 'ER indoors, bless her, had got all dressed up with nowhere to go, to keep the illusion going.

What a wonderful surprise and what a wonderful daughter. I'm a lucky old geezer to have such a thoughtful girl, bless her. :D :D :D :D :D

Superb.

That sort of thing knocks the old socks and tie routine into a cocked hat.

You have clearly brought up your daughter well.

Thos. :flowers:

Both kids and grandkids are a credit to themselves and the family. We are proud of them all.

Unfortunately there are so many instances today of ill brought up louts, that it is nice to both have, and see others have lovely families. I still can't get off my mind, my surprise, and seeing the pleasure that it gave her to see me enjoy myself. I know that she and her family don't have that kind of money to spare. She would not even let me pay for the car park, or buy a pre concert drink.
