artist Posted April 13, 2006 Report Share Posted April 13, 2006 My little cockatiel died in the night. I expect it was old age - he was 28. He used to be a house bird until we misguidedly bought him a girfriend some years ago. He became a sex maniac and very vocal and like most men had become an exhibitionist.Every time we had visitors he would 'perform' with his mate - most embarassing! They would scream for each other if on opposite sides of the room - it was all too much. So one summer we made an aviary and despatched them outside!Mrs Charlie died in egg-birth. So we got another friend - male this time. That caused some confusion!! He lived for about 8 years. So we got Joey from a rescue place. Dear little bird. He's been with us about 8 years.He is bereft at the loss of his friend and is out there constantly calling and looking for him. It is so sad.....We will ask the vet if he knows of a nice aviary who will take him later. He will pine away on his own. I will be sorry to see the aviary go - but cockaties are so long lived........I will remember him with fondness. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We have had so many years tied to animals - time to move on I think. In a breath, I would get a couple more dogs and a cat and more birds - but you have to know when to stop. I do agree though, that there comes a time when taking care of them can be more than we can handle. At least this is true in my case.
