deuces wild Posted April 26, 2006 Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 Another thread discussing UK beer has me wondering about a couple of things when compared to American beer.What are the % alcohol, calories and carbs/12 bottle, can or glass of your favorite beer?I drink Miller Genuine Draft which is only 5% alcohol by volume or Bud Light which is 4.2% (calories and carbs on chart posted below). deuces wild Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 So it is not the alcohol but the rich stout flavor (barely, hops) you like in a beer or ale?Americans in general prefer a beer that is not *overwhelming* (you don't need a toothpick after drinking it) in the flavor department yet refreshing while retaining a good amount of flavor. Such tastes may range from Coors (basically water :lol: ) to Sam Adams Triple Bock .Our *light* beer is a bit watered down compared to our regular beers like MGD, yet many still hold a fair amount of taste. Folks who drink light beer here are generally more concerned about alcohol consumption and calories. The average strength of draught beers is probably from 4 to 5.5%, with most round about 4.5% draught beer is best drunk cool rather than ice cold. Stronger, darker and more highly flavoured beers have a strong following, but I reckon that draught probably outsells other beers by a big margin. Tankus Posted April 27, 2006 Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 I had a few bottles of "Sierra Nevada 2005 Celebration Ale " 6.8% brewed and bottled by Sierra Nevada brewing Co .Chico .CA.USA ...... the other night A revelation in a bottle Its stright in my top ten ....sainsburys were doing them at £1.09 a bottle .... as I never pass on a beer offer ........ I was impressed ...so moved ...I posted in the Pit none there tonight .... so Its back on the Marstons Old Empire .. You just cant beat a decent Indian Pale Ale for enjoyment (Brains do a good un too ...but its very local to Cardiff) ...That US beer tasted like an IPA ...maybe they dont usually export their quality ...and usually give us the crap ..If your going to drink from bottles ...try an IPA ..it was brewed to travel well ...and it does Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
