dgg9879 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Share Posted May 4, 2006 What peer to peer file sharing methods/programs are most recommended?I have antispyware and anti-virus software and a firewall (Zone Alarm free version, Spysweeper (paid) and BitDefender (paid).How can I configure the p2p to work with the firewall on?I am considering azureus for bitTorrent. -pops- Posted May 4, 2006 Report Share Posted May 4, 2006 I would NEVER allow P2P of any complexion on any of my machines.I've had to try and rescue far too many computers infected and infested with just about every known nasty as a direct result of the use of Kazaa, Napster, BitTorrent, eMule and all relate software. More often than not the only effective rescue has been to re-install the operating system - thus losing all that has been downloaded on the P2P.No matter what precautions you take against becoming infected, connecting to P2P operations is effectively an open invitation to catch some (most likely terminal) computer disease. Scarecrow Man Posted May 4, 2006 Report Share Posted May 4, 2006 ANY P2P program will have to establish a connection with a remote computer.Programs like FrostWire or LimeWire, connect to multiple peers. If this peer has any virus or spyware on thier computer, you are able to be infected. A firewall will not stop this.That being said, the best P2P is no P2P at all. trackrat Posted May 4, 2006 Report Share Posted May 4, 2006 I hear all that has been said about P2P programs, but I have used Limewire for a few years now and have never had an infection.Every time I open it Limewire has to ask for an internet connection, so if I am not using the program it cannot connect to the internet.
