Kevin Posted May 8, 2006 Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 I recently installed the new Windows Messenger Beta, and for a while i wish i hadn't, because of some problems i had with it, but then a newer beta version became available, and i haven't had problems with the new one, but i was curious about everyone's opinion on beta's. -pops- Posted May 8, 2006 Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 I have answered yes but, if I was reliant on one machine it would have been a most definite "NO".I have done a lot of beta testing in the past - right back to W95, 98, ME, what became XP and quite a few other things. I'm getting a bit old now to be bothered with coping with some of the (sometimes spectacular) disasters that can happen.A further qualifiaction on my beta testing is that I wouldn't test a product that I wouldn't eventually want to use in my machine. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted May 8, 2006 Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 I only install beta versions of productsthat I already usewhere I can have a direct impact on the final outcomethat I know I can safely uninstallI am currently actively beta testing Windows Defender (where every issue is addressed in the WD newsgroup), ewido 4 (where every issue is addressed by the developers in the ewido forum), and Cloudmark Desktop spam filter (where issues can be sent in via email).And then there is of course Google - do they have any product that is not in permanent beta...? Belatucadrus Posted May 8, 2006 Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 Firefox, Windows defender, Spydefense and a few others over the years, I usually install them with Total Uninstall, so I can backtrack easily if it goes pear shaped. However, it has a fine set of utilities and works flawlessly for several hours before going into sleep then hibernate mode. I have every incentive to make this work because each version gets harder to obtain and more expensive.
