Alan2273 Posted June 5, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 5, 2006 Just out of interest I clicked on the link and entered Bogus Password, ID & account information and birthdate, and was taken to another HSBC page which said my account had been reinstated.It should be fun if they try to take money out of the ficticious account. They mostly get stopped in the spam trap.You can always know that these are fake by: 1. Real financial institutions NEVER send out requests like this.2. A quick look at the standard of English usage will convince most people about the lack of authenticity of the message.Unfortunately, many are gullible to these requests, even after numerous warnings given in the press and media. If not, they can be reported to Google with a single click on the toolbar:As for identifying fraudulent messagesHovering the pointer over the link they want you to click will show you the real destinationThe language (spelling) is a dead give-away most of the time; the sample in this topic is simply atrocious... Dear CustomerIn my experience hoax emails always start with this and not the actual customers name which it should do. genuine banks never send emails asking for customers to log in. Another rule of thumb which most of us here know.. only log into sites from the banks actual log in homepage, never use an email link to log in to your account which in this case would be http://www.hsbc.co.ukand yep CC has been down today... and still is, just hope they get stuff sorted soon :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
