catgate
What have all the previous PMs done. Particularly those in power when GB had some standing in the world and who did not need something to salve their bruised egos.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...ublairforce.xmlYou would wonder what was wrong with using RAF planes. If the number that rush headlong over our countryside is anything to go by we would not miss one for a few days.
Belatucadrus
I like the way he used to borrow from the queens flight, now she has to borrow Blairforce one, or two. Gives you some idea as to how much he values himself. Tried RyanAir, didn't like it so buys two jet liners.BBCThey are expected to cost around £12.3m a year - about £2.7m more than the current arrangement. As one of the justifications for changing the existing system was lack of cost effectiveness, please explain how blowing an additional £2.7M a year is an improvement.Mind you perhaps it should be called Brownforce one as by the time it's in Service TB will have stepped down. I wonder who signed the cheque ?we would not miss one for a few days.Actually they would, the RAF transport fleet is chronically overstretched with all the foreign commitments. catgate
Was all this aeroplane business in some very small print at the bottom of his last election manifesto?
andsome
I am not even slightly surprised. This is just typical of the arrogance of B'liar and his cronies. His plastic faced wife will almost certainly use on to fly off to Paris for a hairdo.

He's gambled away most of what he has removed from our pockets. And as far as odds are concerned have you ever seen a bigger bunch of 'odds' than those sat in the Westminster betting shop? Thos
Where are B'liars friends on the forum? Is it just possible that even they think that enough is enough?I have never professed to be a friend of what catgate calls "our cherub" but nevertheless I assume you are referring to me.The comments on the topic have been so far off the mark that I hoped someone would actually read what has been proposed. Not that THIS Prime Minister should be transported by this plane but that future PM's should. That a review on the costs of ministerial travel is recommending that the Government should lease two second hand planes, one long haul and one short haul on a long term basis so that they can be modified for security etc. The Queen would have first call. This makes some of the remarks made on this topic just gratuitous nonsense especially the personal rubbish about a "plastic faced wife".Happy now, andsome?Thos. andsome
QUOTE: As the new planes will not come into service until late 2007 or early 2008, it is unlikely that Mr Blair will have much use of them before he steps down.Note the words not much use. I still cannot see the reason to increase the costs of transport for him or the Queen. WHY cause any increase in cost at all? regarding my remarks about Plastic face. I think that anyone with decent eyesight would agree that she does look rather like Cruella De Ville. :D

Ten years of experience has shown that this questioning must be increased by several orders of magnitude where our current bunch of muffins is concerned. It seems that the purpose of most of these reviews and inquiries is to provide justification for already fixed ideas and schemes and conclusions (hence the hefty remuneration of the consultant reviewers), rather than to find out true fact. The majority of the ministerial travel has been done by our little cherub, much of it going to see, and running errands for, his idle idol. Much of the travel by other ministers has been for the same purpose, i.e. licking Dubya's a**e.Strangely enough the governing of this country requires very little overseas travel, because most of this country is in this country. As a result much of the remainder of ministerial overseas travel, such as George's give away spree trips, are not for the benefit of this country but are for the ever increasing interference by our government in "world" affairs, that are not our business, but which provide ego massaging opportunities for the traveler (whomsoever) and his/her boss. The Queen would have first call, unless someone else needed it.

trackrat
I am certainly not a fan of Blair or what his government is doing to the country, but are they any different from previous governments, who all like to get there snouts in the trough. And hurling personal insults at Cherie,( who after all is using all the advantages she can get while her husband is PM,) and who would,nt given the chance, is over the top.At the end of the day what ever your political persuasion, Labour were elected and if the Tories had been elected who says they would have been any different.Unfortunately whichever party is in power, it seems there only goal is to feather there own nests while the going is good and to hell with the people who elected them. -pops-
There's more to this than the initial outlay of x million or billion of ££££££££££££££. These machines have to be looked after. They don't just sit in their aeroplane-garage waiting for the next time you want to go out for a spin. There is a legal requirement for them to maintain air worthiness and this takes full time maintenance staff (more ££££££). What about a driver or two or three? Are they to have pilots on permanent attachment to the semi-redundant flying machines or just borrow one from an airline when they feel like it? Pilots aren't cheap (I know, we have one in the family) so to have one, or more, sitting around twiddling their whatevers will not make any economic sense. If they take someone from the RAF to fly them well, flying a commercial aircraft is very much different from flying military machines and anyone they train up is soon going to be envious of the extra money he/she could be earning from the commercial sector and leave to go there. What about all the waiting time that Blair or Madge don't want to go out for a spin? These aircraft could be used for more mundane purposes like carting loads of people in their annual pilgrimage to the fleshpots of the Balearics- at least that would bring some money in. I beginning to see a fantasy world of BlairMadge Airlines in competition with Branson or Stavros. Old Madge as a trolley dolly (or wagon dragon) serving drinks and peanuts to the masses

It will be another of his "buy now pay later" or "two for the price of one" PPP or PFI offers. "We'll have them tomorrow and then we will commit who ever follows us to being lumbered."
