andsome Posted July 26, 2006 Report Share Posted July 26, 2006 We have had a plague of THUNDERBUGS this year. We always see some during hot weather but this year has been exceptional. They are particularly fond of window ledges and corners of windows. What we call Thunderbugs ave very tiny, maybe 1 to 2 mm long, and thinner than a strand of cotton thread. Tiny though they are, they can really irritate when they settle on you. I think they deliberately stamp hard as they land. I don't mean the roundish shiny little black pollen beetles that infest rape and other yellow flowers. These things are little bigger than dust. Anyone else plagued with them this summer? Usually attack afternoon/early evening.For some reason they are particularly attracted to my dog which, being a Golden Retriever, looks rather dirty and discoloured covered in these things.I've noticed also this year there are large numbers of wasps. They are all over the place, window sills, on top of the Comptuer case, you name it. We have a West Highland Terrier bitch and she is forever scratting herself due to the little criters. We always seem to get the little blighters in the middle of July for some reason.
