-pops- Posted July 28, 2006 Report Share Posted July 28, 2006 Just go back from my daily exercise walk.Whilst I was out I noticed water hissing from the road surface so I quite reasonably thought it was a leaking pipe. There was quite a large puddle created so, in the times of shortages, I considered I would be a good citizen and report it.Now, I live on the borders of Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire and although I live in Sussex, the leak was in Surrey which is served by Thames Water (mine is Southern Water).I dialled the 0845 number for Thames water leak reporting. This is not quite verbatim as I was so astonished I forgot the minor detail but the conversation went something like:"Good morning, Thames Water.""Hello. I want to report a leak.""Can I have your account number please?"""I'm reporting a leak not paying a bill.""We can't accept leak reports without an account number or an address.""OK my address is (I told her my address).""Thames Water doesn't serve that address, you need Southern Water."But the leak is on the road in an area served by Thames Water.""We can only accept leak reports from the area concerned."Needless to say, water continues to spew out of the road. This is the attitude shown by a company who have just been fined/made to pay £117,000,000 to improve poor service.
