Not sure if I'll still be connected tomorrow

My phone is finally switching over to TalkTalk tomorrow as BT have got their act together. However I'm not sure if I'll still be able to connect to the internet. Got a letter from BT last week to say that the transfer will take place on 5th September. It also said that BT will no longer be providing the BT together option - no probs there, however, they will also be ceasing the Bulk ADSL to SMPF Split Line Voice Service. Not exactly sure what that means. As the Broadband service from TT hasn't been started yet - waiting for the MAC from Plus-net my present provider, I may not be able to surf from home. I will visit though as No. Daughter has aid "come round and use ours". May mean I'll have to do a bit of work round there. I'll be checking in from here from time to time just to see how it's going.

We were going to join TT last year for ADSL + a phone package. The sister-in-law had been sold the package while shopping at MeadowHall and recommended us as we were talking of changing as we only had dial-up at this point and wanted ADSL. After reading a few negative comments on a well known site for providers and their customers reactions, we decided to give it a miss. Basically they had missunderstood what the term "unlimited" meant (like so many providers have and still do in some cases <---yeah right!) with their ADSL service and users were getting thrown off because of "capping" and high monthly usage.

Anyway there was a mess-up with the bank details and luckily we got out and lost nothing. The sister-in-law has recently cancelled and gone elsewhere for her phone and ADSL. We went with ADSL4Less, who I thought did a great job, and are now on Telewest 2Mbit for the same price as ADSL4Less was and are really happy with it.

I'm pleased to see it's just not me that has been reading about TT. Some of the biggest grouses seem to be the connection drop out rates and the connection speeds not to mention the promised download speeds that people have signed up for months ago and are still waiting for. Not to forget the help line attempts either. One person shouting on a certain forum tried for two days to get on the help line and when he did manage they just said we apologise and are working on the problem. His main shout was about the outage, he had not been able to connect for three days.

Not that different with me for the last few days. Plusnet, my present provider have been blaming BT/Tiscali. Each saying it's due to upgrades - in the good old days they used to use the phrase "Act of God" a euphemism for "Haven't a clue"

I've been with BT now for the last eight years and up to now they have delivered everything they said they would. They may be a little bit more expensive than the rest of the ISP's that are trying to muscle in but at least I have got peace of mind.

Are you not still in your cooling off period doug? I'm really worried about this and hope it turns out OK for you but has others have said and I said last week I can't find a good word about them. My neighbor [Warden] and I found out only on Saturday last week several of the Tennants in our scheme where with them and had nothing but problems.

Not sure about the broadband doug but it sounds as though BT wholesale is ceasing your line and TT will pick it up on what is known as LLU [Local loop unbundling] This means your on their own line and pipe for your phone and broadband from the exchange through to TT. While you where with +not, BT wholesale provided your broadband line through your ISP.

When you come to change back in the future, if you do, then hopefully the LLU company's will have got there act together and allow migrations. Some do at the moment, but it does not always go smooth. From what you have said, I have a feeling BT wholesale will drop the ADSL line and you will need to wait for TT to pick it up. Normal migrations go through without you losing your broadband even for a minute, you just log off your old ISP and straight on to the new one.

I phoned my ISP this lunchtime to get my lad on to broadband, received several emails through the day to keep me informed of progress and at 16:00 hours I received the final one to inform me the router will be with him tomorrow morning and his line will be active later in the day. I know it will be because it has been the same for all the people I've recommended to them. Normally 24 to 36 hours but one took 48 hours, all where new connections.

Good luck doug, I hope it runs smooth for you and you never know you just might be the exception. Are you allowed the disability facilities same as BT offered like free priority call outs and no charge if the fault is in your home wiring as apposed to their line behind the master socket?

Here is a lone good word for them. I recently visited a friend to help her to finalise the installation of TT BB. To date everything has run perfectly and she is over the moon after several years of dial up. It has been running perfectly for several weeks. Fingers crossed for you Doug.
