-pops- Posted October 14, 2006 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 I've posted in another thread about my AVG being adversely affected by a surreptitious turning on of Windows Firewall by forces unknown.I've checked my three machines and they've all had this done to them and artist reports the same has happened to her.So, folks if you think you are working with this not very good piece of software disabled, check to see if that is actually the case or if something has come by in the night and switched it on for you. nellie2 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 My Windows Firewall is off. One thing I would say is that Windows does detect and recognise some other third party Firewalls. If I go into the Security Centre on my laptop, first glance tells me that the Windows Firewall is on (it shouldn't be as I have Kerio installed) When I look closer though it has recognised Kerio and is telling me that I have a Firewall on. -pops- Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 Mine was off as I use Sygate but, as explained in the other thread, I noticed the other day that AVG on one machine was not updating or running its scheduled scans and had to be re-installed. This happened every bootup which got a bit boring and time consuming. I did some searching around and found that Windows Firewall could affect parts of AVG and, on checking, I discovered that somehow, Windows Firewall had been enabled by something (certainly not me). I checked my other two machines and found the same with them although it hadn't affected AVG on those.I've disabled it again and everything is OK.
