WINDOWS LIVE SECURITY SCANNER.

Occasionally, I get a message saying that Internet Explorer (or Outlook Express or whatever) has encountered an error and needs to be shut down. It then goes through the reporting procedure etc. I am sure you have all experienced this.

Occasionally I get a link to Windows Live Safety Scanner. I think this is a good tool but I don't recall it being mentioned on this forum. Does anyone use it and what are the general opinions on it. The tool can be found HERE if you haven't tried it already, and I would value any opinions.

I have certainly received the message that an error has been encountered, but although I have been offered and taken the link which suggested a solution, I have not come across this scan tool. Have you ever used it Thos and if so were there any results of interest?

p.s. Needless to say, I have historically used the various Symantec (Norton) Tools .. :censored: .. :D

I've been upgrading computers from 98 to XP recently, and see this error quite often. This may not be your solution, but it has worked every time for me.

1. Download the uninstall_flash_player.exe from here - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase...cfm?id=tn_14157

2. Run the uninstaller

3. Visit a website that uses flash or http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/tr...mcom/flash.html

Be aware that this is $50 a year.

This is definitely news to me. I use it every couple of weeks or so, FREE OF CHARGE. I have also placed the link into my daughters and a friends favourites and they use it regularly. I think it is a useful addition.

I get the message mentioned very very occasionally.

Sorry, I didn't read the writing on the link as I thought it was the same as the scan that I normally use.

This one is free and seems to be effective.

I would be wary of the other link as it has a built in AV program running in the background. Most of us already run an AV program. The one that I use is a one off scanner and tune up.

Shome mishunderstanding, shurely.

The link in my opening post takes me to the same site as andsomes and is the home page, I think of pops link. I believe, according to the site, that the paid for version is only available in the US.

Anyway, my intention was to draw attention to a comprehensive free scan available on a one-off basis.

Scarecrow Man. I am not too bothered about the error notice, it doesn't seem to have any effect afterwards.

Irene. Yes, I did scan with it and after it installed a system restore point it scanned for malware etc. (none found) Then scanned for registry issues (31 found) and so on. It advised on defragmentation and other things also. All in all, it looked useful and I have bookmarked the site for future occasional use.

Wow - it got me - said cant use it with your browser. Forgot that Bill just don't like Firefox.

Will have to go to IE6 and give it a go.

why because I still have this blooming problem of usage and I have done everything suggested and used and scanned and Hijacked it and no one but no one can help.

Maybe this will find something.

PS i have updated my plan - now have a whole 1000MB to use between 9am and 1 am and 2000 outside that peak.

Lovely I thought, 6 days into new plan and already used 566 MB - so gremlin is still there, one day 5mb and next 300 and I go nowhere else than day before.

know annoying woman cant stop going on about it :D
