andsome
We agreed years ago soon after we first met, that this is just another scheme for the card manufacturers to make money.
-pops-
I'm with andsome on this. Why should be be blackmailed every year on this date by Clinton Cards, florists, chocolatiers, purveyors of alcohol and other such that by not purchasing their wares, we don't love or appreciate our partner?Might be interesting to read more about the venerated saint here. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
In Japan it's the chocolate industry that has perverted Valentine's Day. All females are obliged to give chocolates to the males in their lives (father, husband, boyfriend, boss, colleagues, landlord, etc) on February 14.Then on March 14 Japan "celebrates" "White Day", where all males must return white chocolate to the females... It is plain ridiculous, but you can't escape the social obligations. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Day).The restaurants are of course cashing in on Valentine's Day. Special Valentine course menus are on all week, with Champagne included. A pizzeria in my neighborhood serves heart-shaped pizza this week! andsome
It's all one big con. Best to do as pops and me have, and agree to spend your money as you both want, and NOT be dictated to. We have never sent easter cards either.

So no excuse to not give your wife a card.
