doug
We recently decided that as our existing car was 5 years old - Peugeot 307 automatic with flip over accelerator pedal which enables wife to drive using her left foot only as the right doesn't work - we needed to change it. Up till now we have always owned our car. This time we decided to opt for a car under the UK Motability scheme. As she receives the higher rated disability allowance for her MS problem it means that she trades in her allowance to the Scheme in return for a contract vehicle which is insured, serviced and taxed by the scheme. The contract lasts for 3 years with the option for a new car and new contract. We have chosen a Peugeot 307 SE - upper range Station Waggon. The size is for her wheel chairs and with the low tailgate means I wont have to lift her electric shopping buggy too high to get it in. Delivery was scheduled for today as the MOT expires on Wednesday.First snag. I was contacted on Fri last that there was a slight snag. A mix up with the paper work resulted in the wrong accelerator (gas) pedal being ordered. Shouldn't be a problem we could collect the new car on Friday! Oh no I said that would mean having to the present car MOT'd at our cost! What about a Courtesy car for the few days. Ah a snag there as their courtesy cars were committed for the next dew days for the service dept for other customers. Back to plan A, we would take delivery of the as originally planned for 11 am today. The modification would be carried out when the conversion kit arrived.Second snag. We arrived on time, wife and G'daughter that we were minding for the day, remained in the car to save walking - the wheel chair having been left at home when I gutted the old car. I strolled in and approached the salesman who deals with the Motability scheme I was overtaken by an irate customer so I had to wait patiently while matters were sorted. We then started to go through the paperwork. The salesman departed to log onto the DVLA people in Swansea to find that the DVLA computer was down - have we heard about this sort of thing. So we had to depart and wait for a phone call to say that the registration had been finalised.Third snag. Received the call at 2:30 pm to say all was ready so we finished our late lunch and went to collect the car. We arrived this time with wife only who remained in the car. Processed all the paperwork and the new car was brought round close to our old one. Went through the familiarisation - very similar to our old car but with more computer gadgets being a later model. Have just been flicking through the handbook. Noticed that the low level fuel light was on. We both said "they don't give much away so we had better go and pop a couple of gallons in 'till tomorrow when we can fill up on our way to the hospital. 2 miles short of the first garage on our way home we spluttered to a halt - out of fuel! Rang the garage to say we were stranded. Abject apologies and one of the chaps would come down to sort it out. After 45 mins chap arrived with a gallon (UK size) which he poured in. Would the car start - NO. Occasional splutters only. So the chap drove us home and went back. Got a phone call from the Salesman at about 4:30 asking if everything had been sorted out. "NO" I said we were home but car-less. Interruption at the other end then was told that the service manager himself had gone to sort things out. Car arrived at about 6 pm.Will have to wait 'till daylight to familiarise myself with it.So that was our day up the Swanny.
catgate
Look on the bright side, Doug. If all these c**k-ups had not occured you would have just been sat at home twiddling your thumbs and wondering what to do with the day, As it is you have been kept amused and had a wonderful demonstration of how our NHS (and society in general) has gone from strength to strength in recent years. nellie2
Well I think it is very poor customer service to give you a car with no petrol in it!!
