What is WRONG with these people!!

Too much time on their hands.

I suspect that the thing that is wrong is that, like our politicians (local, national and international), they have totally forgotten that they work for us and we pay them. Not the other way round.

I think this is the key statement.

they were acting on a complaint over my labelling

I don't condone what happened, but if some sad person who likes to go around making trouble for others did complain, then the officials have little choice but to act on that complaint. :(

But nel, it used to be the case that trouble mongers like that were sent away with a proverbial flea in their ear, not have their silly and vindictive ideas acted upon in a positive way like this.

Where will it end?

Of course you are right -pops-, but these silly vindictive people have as much right to be heard as anyone else... and if they insist on the letter of the law being followed (and the law agrees with them) then what are we supposed to do?

Of course, you and I know that this law is supposed to protect the consumer so that if they buy some butter shortbread, they know it will have butter in it.

So an Eccles cake should contain a piece of Manchester. A bottle of Black Sheep beer should contain maybe a horn and a bottle of Old Peculiar should have a portion of Mandleson within?

edit:- Has anyone recently bought a Penguin biscuit?

Does all this mean that a stick of rock has to have a piece of rock in it?

This is exactly the point. People used to have common sense to know the name isn't literal..........Why do we need someone to explain everything these days!
