I've created a 12MB one in Win 98, don't know about XP though :o

Windows 95 and probably 98 is limited to a 16-MB RAM drive

Restart your computer.

Press F8 , Command Prompt.

Edit Config.sys adding the following line

device=\ramdrive.sys size in kb /E

e.g. If Win98 in C:\windows

device=c:\windows\ramdrive.sys 12288 /E

The Ramdrive.sys line must follow the Himem.sys line, or RAM drive may not work.

Try this madboy ? :-

TO CREATE A RAM DRIVE ON WINDOWS XP/2000

Download http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...-US/Ramdisk.exe

Extract it. (Note the location of where you extracted the files)

Go to Control Panel ->

Add Hardware ->

Choose From a List ->

Other Devices ->

Have Disk.

The disk, is the location of where you extracted the files

*Windows XP does not have Certifications for this.

Your RAM drive is installed, however you will only get 1MB on it.

*To Adjust RAMDRIVE SIZE:

Start Regedit in your :\windows\regedit

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ramdisk\Parameters

"DriveLetter" is set to Z: *You may change this.

Change "DiskSize" to 1f00000

This should give you about 30MB.

NOTE:

If you want a larger RAM-drive, you will need to buy it from here.

You can change the location of your cache files for Internet Explorer. If they go to the RAM Drive, it will help process web pages faster, and all you have to do is shut down the computer to clear the cache

Above details were extracted from parts of this thread :-

Give it a whirl ? :D

I'd forgotten where I'd come across this before , but I was sure that the guy in that thread above was wrong in saying you had to pay big bucks for > 30MB RAM disk ! This is what was stored in the old memory banks. :D

AR RAM Disk is a freeware driver for Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. You can use this driver to create an additional drive in physical memory.

- this link is now dead, but if anyone would like the file, please PM me - Boris

The theoretical maximum capacity of the RAM Disk is 2GB

I think ellas and the other XP aces should give this a try too ! :rolleyes:

I can't - doesn't work with ME.

Yeah I know what Ram is

What uses it and what for?? All my proggies and o/s are stored on my hard disk. Ram is cleared when the PC is off so it can't be a permanent thing......what ever it is........is it??
