As the tell you as you are about to pay that they will send your credit card information to countries that may not be to secure (this is why I need to contact them) then this should be the last year I have to do it. She eventually found a number and got in touch and managed to get a card refund. I installed Zone Alarm Internet security for her. I don't know now what the number was. Remember that Norton comes pre-installed in lots of commercial computers and, in the UK, one of the largest ISP's provide Norton as part of their broadband package. Remember also that Norton is widely advertised and, as many people are not as computer savvy as you or I may be, they succumb to the power of the advertisement.I would not have anything with the Norton or Symantec name anywhere near any of my computers and any software I have had from companies which have been subsequently bought by Symantec has not been renewed.BTW, you will soon get used to catgate's sense of humour - don't take him too literally or seriously :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got him to ditch Norton and put Avast on instead. crashoverride, this person was in their 70's when he bought the PC (his first) and like probably most people thought that as it was pre installed buy a manufacturer that was trusted (Evesham) he thought it should be used. It was when big business in the form of what eventually became Symantec that the rot set in. It's the same with all of the products under the name of Symantec. Small but excellent software companies were bought out (probably for next to nothing) and stripped of anything useful. These strippings then had the heart and soul taken out of then so that they were a small imitation of what they previously were and then all bunged together into some kind of "suite" which did only half of what it was supposed to do, was almost impossible to remove so the average hapless user was stuck with it under the impression that that's what it's all about.It is most likely that all the Symantec security suites included with commercial builds are given to the builder for free under that knowledge that the average punter will just renew when the time comes because they don't know any better.
