andsome
There should be a small hole on the front of the CD unit. Straighten out a paper clip and carefully push the end into the hole. This should open the tray manually. :D

trackrat
Have you tried pressing the eject button while the computer is booting up, as this sometimes works.

Scarecrow Man
All CD-Roms have a small hole on the front of the unit. This is a fail-safe so the drive can be opened even if it is not powered. I assume, as boris says, that there was some sort of fascia on it, or a covering to hide the actual drive and make the case look more streamlined. But, since you have it open there is no need to worry about this now. :)edit: typo

I did try to gently pull the "facia", but it just would not move.Any tips on this one? :D

Boris
Irene - this is what your drive looks like in its natural state :)http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press_Ar...200108/01-044E/........ you can see where the tiny hole is - just to the right + above the volume control.I guess that yours has a curved rather than flat front - i.e. some clip-on fascia ? I just got my camera to take a photo, but the battery is dead.I'll do it tomorrow with a live battery. It certainly does not look like that in my case. andsome
Does the front of the sliding tray area protrude very slightly? If so, this is almost certainly a removable facia. If it won't unclip, will it slide up or down? Now that it can actually open, does it look as though there is a cover there when you open it?
