CD tray stuck in !!!

Recommended Posts

There should be a small hole on the front of the CD unit.
There isn't one in mine. :(

That's most unusual ! - what make/model is the PC and CD/RW ?

It's not one of those CD units hidden behind a plastic fascia is it ?

Have you tried pressing the eject button while the computer is booting up, as this sometimes works.
It worked!!! :D

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :kiss2:

I'm now going to treat myself to a nice well chilled glass of wine.

I wish you were here, then you could join me. :D

All CD-Roms have a small hole on the front of the unit. This is a fail-safe so the drive can be opened even if it is not powered. I assume, as boris says, that there was some sort of fascia on it, or a covering to hide the actual drive and make the case look more streamlined.

But, since you have it open there is no need to worry about this now. :)

edit: typo

It would be useful to know how to deal with a problem like this again, if trackrat's solution didn't work.

There is probably a facia, but I wouldn't know how to remove it, should the occasion arise.

I did try to gently pull the "facia", but it just would not move.

Any tips on this one? :D

Irene - this is what your drive looks like in its natural state :)

........ you can see where the tiny hole is - just to the right + above the volume control.

I guess that yours has a curved rather than flat front - i.e. some clip-on fascia ?

I just got my camera to take a photo, but the battery is dead.

I'll do it tomorrow with a live battery.

It certainly does not look like that in my case. But, no matter, I'll publish it tomorrow.

Thanks again anyway.

You guys are my life-long hero's. :D

This forum is the next best thing that has happened to me, in my life. (next to my new hubby, of course).

Does the front of the sliding tray area protrude very slightly? If so, this is almost certainly a removable facia.

If it won't unclip, will it slide up or down? Now that it can actually open, does it look as though there is a cover there when you open it?

You're right, it does sort of slide up. :D

The trouble is, I'm not sure how you would remove it when it's in the IN position.

As I presumed :) Sony - value style and appearance much more than functionality and practicality

Thanks all for the help and most valuable assistance when needed. :D
