Problem is that now the whole sideshow/circus will be inflicted on Britain.

Whatever the truth about this case (and we shouldn't speculate on this) it shows superlative talents of self aggrandisement on the part of Mr and Mrs McCann. To remain in the headlines of just about every newspaper every day since May (more than four months) certainly shows something. I'm not quite sure what but, whatever it is, they have it in abundance.

Unfortunately hundreds of children go missing every year. They may get a few lines in their local freebie news rag and that is it. If the child is female, preferably blonde and pretty the media machine stirs into action. If this same child also has parents with an unconscionable appetite for publicity (note the Paynes as well as the McCanns) then there is no end to the outpourings of sympathy and grief all stirred up by them.

What is the McCanns motive? Is it to become world renowned or is it to find their daughter? If it were the latter, my view is that it would have been better done in a much quieter way without visits to the Pope. Without ol'e squeaky voice Beckham spouting on about it. Without it filling every newspaper's front page for a quarter of a year. Just get on with working with interested parties and the police in order to get to the bottom of the situation.

How long before that nasty little man, Max Clifford will be sniffing round their backsides vainly hoping to represent them? Sorry Max, they're doing a better publicity job without you.

Are these the rantings of a cynical, bitter old man? You bet they are.

I can't get the link to open, nor can I get the Times link that I wanted to quote.

Is yours the article by Matthew Parris on Robert Murat? An innocent drawn into this sordid affair and whose life is ruined as he will always be known as a suspect in this case.

How couple helped to build ‘brand McCann’ into global phenomenon

I heared that Murat was going to sell his side of the story .....and his agent is .....................................Max Clifford ..!

The recent developments have reinforced my feelings from shortly after this circus got up its full head of steam.

The prime objective of a conjurer is to distract the attention of his audience.

Just who the conjurer is in this instance we will hopefully find out in due course.

We have to be careful at this stage in pointing any fingers of guilt, BUT there is something about the parents that I have never liked. Personally, I feel that they have been too cool and collected about it all, and seem to have almost relished the limelight. Ask you selves, in similar circumstances could you have gone on all these trips, and staged beach walks with the media in tow? I know that I couldn't.

I note that all opinions on here are from men.

Speaking as a mother, I would not want to leave the place of my child's disappearance until it were proven that she was dead. There would always be a chance that she could see or be told that her parents had left and gone home. What devastation on top of everything else!

There is no accounting as to how people will react given the same circumstances. If seeing the pope or getting some well known person to speak out, then so be it. ANYTHING! I'm sure I would clutch at any straw.

It's cruel to speak of them as being publicity seeking. The nightmares of what could be happening must be re-occurring they surely must be going demented with those thoughts.

It's just my opinion but I don't think for a moment that the parents had anything to do with it. As for the neighbour - maybe he was glad to help.........The papers mostly tell news to suit itself - as has been said on here many times before.

now there is a can of worms Im not going to open as I am not a parent

________________________________________________________________

don't really have an opinion on the case itself , either way to be honest ,and Ive stayed out of various Maddie threads , here and elsewhere

But it is the worst media fest that Ive ever seen . (perhaps since OJ)..... helicopters following cars and I gather reporters booked on the same flight back from Faro

The point of the original post was that the political Portuguese had an agenda to get the McCanns out of the Algarve ,they were bad for business ,perhaps !..............................The arguidos status has achieved this, the status can be held for 8 months ( or so I heard ) , not quite the same as being charged for a crime , but I think it got the desired political result . As for the guilt or innocence , who knows ,

There is now a lot of money involved ,and not just from the media side ,but also from fundraising from some very adriot marketing .......... the child has become a commodity , seemingly bartered in absence ....And the legal case becomeing a sidelined input to an evolving script .....

Nasty all round

Didnt buy the papers today

I can only add, that as a mother and grandmother, I hope and pray that the McCann parents had no involvement in the loss of their daughter. :(

It is such a tragic story, that I cannot begin to imagine how they can possibly feel.

Each and every time I see any report, I find that I am unable to control my emotions.

I could not possibly judge the McCann's. Thank goodness... it is not within the realms of my power.

Don't think that I would want to be on the Jury on this one ....and I hope the Portuguese have some anti profiteering laws against them hitting the tabloids within 30 secs of the case end .... either way

But it gets even more out there

A meeting between the directors controlling the Madeleine fund will take place within the next 24 hours to discuss whether to release the money to pay for the McCann's legal team, if they are charged over the four-year-old's disappearance.
With no income and facing huge legal bills for a fight that could last several years, the couple will have to find the money from either other donors, family or even by taking drastic measures like selling their house.

They are keen for the money to be released after they hired a senior legal team, including Michael Caplin QC, who has represented a string of high-profile clients such as General Augusto Pinochet.

He will not come cheap

While using the money to fund their defence may be against the spirit of the fund, because it is a private business and not a registered charity, the money is not ring-fenced for a particular purpose and it seems there is little to stop the McCanns using the money for legal fees.

Telegraph

Not a charity ?
