Jayno - I think the members' banter is light-hearted for the most part as partisan politics are not supposed to be up for discussion on here.

I too voted Labour in the last general election and have been sadly disappointed with all the spin, to mention just one aspect.

I am all for giving Gordon a chance to rectify things because, as I said earlier, there is no viable alternative.

I think you are right about the board banter, and to be honest, my contribution should be read in that way too, or at least as friendly and constructive. I like the community here very much.

In my defence though, I think you could check through all my posts on WF and find that I have never raised politics. The more serious point I guess I make about these internet board "banter" debates is that it shouldn't be just me that's seen as being political simply because I have challenged views that others present, doing so as though they are the accepted attitude of all. This is what is known in political analysis as the "politics of the apparently unpolitical". I'm not saying people have consciously ideological motivations in telling the rest of us we should think ill of Labour/Brown etc, but once they introduce these unconscious or conscious prejudices, they have made their board banter political - not me - and I think there has to be a counterbalance.

The only answer to this is to discuss your wills with your solicitor and draw thing up how YOU want them. I have only outlined the rough idea. Obviously you decide on the small print yourselves. Hope this helps. :D

We have very recently redone as wills, as a result of our recent marriage (the previous ones would become null and void).

No problems Irene. I tried to answer your question in the best possible way. Obviously you and everyone else will draw up their wills to suit themselves and their personal circumstances. We have included a clause into both our wills that states that on the death of the second partner only 80% of the resulting estate will be shared between our two kids. The remaining 20% will be shared out amongst any BLOOD grandchildren. They will however NOT be able to access this money until the age of 21, unless it is used at the discretion of the trustees, (who in this case will be the parents of the children concerned), for the purposes of paying for further education, i.e. university fees etc. This of course is our own personal choice, and you and others will have to make your own minds up. I would however urge everyone on here to seriously consider changing ownership over to joint tenants in common, and then to take similar steps to those taken by us. There is little point in deliberately paying more tax than the minimum. Why throw hard earned lifetime investments and savings down the drain? :D

It means much more, however, when one looks at it when the true meaning of the word "politics" is used, (as given in Roget's Thesaurus), instead of its current, double-speak, bastardised use as a synonym for "government".
