Mike567
Just wondering how many people believe in the healing powers of crystals and gemstones?Personally I'm not sure, but my family members seem to be dead set that they can help. I think if you have belief in something then you are halfway there to helping yourself.I have a friend who is a reflexologist. Personally, it is very painful and I don't think it does any good at all but hubby swears it helped with the back pain he used to get. Each to their own - whatever helps.......... Jayno
Asking your question means you already are prepared to believe these things can have healing powers, but there's the rub: your receptiveness is required, or at least your belief that there is actually something wrong with you that a crystal can correct. I think a double-decker bus can seem like it has healing power if you relate to it in the right way, but it won't swing on a chain as easily as a crystal ..Personally I think it's better to start with the question what self-healing powers I have, or rather what is my idea of wellness in the first place, that I should need to play physician with myself? Mike567
A double decker can help .But I have to agree, it has not been proved that these crystals can help, I have tried some of them for example to help a headache or sprained knee but didn't help.I can only think that its more of a mental tool, it allows you to think that its helping but really its your mind doing the work. andsome
There's always someone somewhere who will try and sell you anything if you are gullible enough to buy it. Much the same as religion. :D
-pops-
Never underestimate the power of the mind. The placebo effect is very well known in allopathic* medicine and a number of other medical or health disciplines rely totally on this. Why else have tiger's bit and rhino horn been so popular in Eastern medicine for so long? There is no reason I can think of why a piece of compressed hair that grows on an animals snout should have any effect on a person's sexual desire but the poor rhino has been hunted almost to the point of extinction because of this belief. To answer your question, though, yes, these things do work if you have the right frame of mind for them to do so.*Allopathic medicine = conventional medicine such as you normally get from the NHS. If you are gullible enough to be taken in and actually believe what is being sold to you, then it may be of some assistance. Personally I think it's all a load of hogwash.

catgate
I have found that there are a number of Homeopathic remedies that actually do work, and have proved them to my own sceptical scientific mind. The cracker of the lot is a substance known as arnica ( Arnica Montana, an alpine plant). The extract, prepared in the normal homeopathic way, and used in what Homeopathy knows as "low" potency, is an absolute top rate first aid remedy for serious bruising. A couple of pilules taken every half hour for a few hours after the event are amazing. It is also wonderful for virtually any mechanical injury and seems to work on a re-absorption of the blood which the body is feeding to the injury. I once wrote-off a go-kart in a high speed crash whilst racing near Thirsk in the late 60s. I expected to be black and blue the morning after, because every tube of the go-kart frame was either smashed or bent and had hit me somewhere or other. By the time I had driven 60 miles home I was beginning to stiffen up. I dosed myself with arnica all evening and the following morning I had neither stiffness nor bruising. It was more than mind over matter or any other psychosomatic event.Another one is is a mixture of Aconite, Gelsemium and Eupartorium for the dissipation of flu symptoms......no I don't suppose it is believable. One of those people who have helped me in life, that I wrote of in another post, was a practising Homeopath, and some of the things that I witnessed over the 25 or more years of our friendship made me sure that, in many cases, Homeopathy did, without doubt, do something. He was old enough to be my father, and in fact he almost became a second father to me. He was a wonderful honest and upright chap who would not have practiced a con. The world became a poorer place with his passing about 20 years ago. I still have doubts about some of the remedies, but without a doubt many of them do actually work. I have prescribed them to friends and other people brought by friends, and many of them have been helped. Even some who did not know that they were being treated! -pops-
I have had some experiences of "alternative" therapies as well. When working in France some years ago I was dining with friends (at their house) and began to develop very strong cold symptoms. The wife of the couple I was dining with, once a well known ballet dancer, was "into" these alternative therapies mainly to help her keep free from pain and injury when dancing. Realising I was unwell, she gave me some "oligo-element" liquid which was an electrolytically produced colloidal suspension of copper, gold and silver (Cuivre, Or, Argent) and some dolomite tablets (dolomite is a natural magnesium/calcium carbonate rock). I was given the bottle to take away with me.The following day, after a few more doses of the stuff, I was completely free of symptoms - in effect, cured of my cold.It worked and it has worked on me since. How? I don't know. Faith healing? Possibly but, it did do as it was supposed to do for me. Now I don't work in France the stuff isn't so easy to obtain but, there is a bottle in my medicine cupboard waiting for the next cold. Watchful
I think that homeopathic remedies are an entirely different kettle of fish to crystals and such. They are medicines and do work for many illnesses. A lot of today's modern medicines are based on old, herbal remedies. There is a lot in believing that something will do you good as the placebo approach has proved. I firmly believe that 90% of all maladies are in the mind but the symptoms are very real.

Mike567
A lot of people rely on others saying that these things have healed them.Theirs a few famous ones like the healing of cancer, but most of the people are just pointing out this one incident as they have nothing else to go on.Some of the stones are really nice though good on the mantelpiece .
