The dental check-up

I've been for my regular dental check-up today. B)

Why is it that we climb into the chair with intrepidation?

I knew that my teeth were in good shape, but I still felt nervous/anxious. :0

Although I was offered a scale & polish, I declined after asking if it was necessary, when I was advised that it was not in my case. :D

Fortunately, I am on the list of an NHS dentist, but it still cost me £15.90 for a 3-4 minute check-up.

Before the NHS pricing review was put in place, I used to pay just £7 for my check-up!!

Now, they just offer me a scale & polish as compensation!

Funny you should mention that Irene as I go for mine in the morning and I'm always a nervous wreck

Added to which, mine has gone private so it may cost me a fortune as I am having trouble with one and another has a sharp edge which keeps cutting into my tongue. :0

I'm trying not to think about it... :(

Am I fortunate in that I can leave my teeth at the dentist to be checked while I go and do something else?

I had to have mine removed prior to heart surgery some years ago. I'm completely used to having acrylic teeth and I know that I'll never get toothache again.

Only one of my teeth are not my own...

Front left. Absolutely in your face if it is absent! :0

I had the 'cap' fittted in 1985. I always lived in fear of losing it, for the obvious reason....

It happened!! Just as the wheels left the runway at Manchester airport, en route to southern Spain, just a few years ago.

You know, I even had/have dreams (nightmares) about losing this tooth or maybe my teeth crumbling.

Does anyone else dream that sort of thing?

If so, does anyone know what it means? (Other than the obvious horror show fear).

However, back to the spanish holiday...

The moment the wheels touched the runway, I was on my way to find a dentist to stick it back in again.

I was mortified. I think I cried all the way from Manchester to Malaga. :(

Fortunately, we found a German dentist in the local centre who did the necessary. I was so afraid of losing it again, I was almost on a liquid diet.

It's still in place, but I still have the horror dreams and nightmares.

Don't put too much importance on the meaning of such dreams as I think it's just your subconscious re-living events that you didn't like and hope won't happen again.
I do hope not!

Can I offer you a toffee Irene.
No thank you very much!!

I think it was whatever I was sucking or chewing as we took off, did the damage.

Can't you tell the footie is on?

What a subject to be discussing...

....teeth droping out and bad dreams.

A friend of mine has only five of his own teeth left, he went to the local Dentist the other day and enquired about have them extracted and a set of dentures made. He was quoted £80.00 per tooth, £400.00 for the extraction and between £600.00 to £900.00 for a set of dentures. Well done the Conservative then the Labour Parties on an NHS to be proud of.

That is outrageous!! :0

My £15.90 NHS dental inspection pales to insignificance. It would include other additional treatment up to a certain level, should it be necessary.

I can't recall the last time I actually required treatment, so I suppose I am most fortunate really.

-pops- you have certainly got the problem under control. :D

I don't in all honesty think that after ten years of labour government, the Tories can be blamed for these exorbitant dental charges. The blame lies fair and square at the governments door. They have pumped extra billions into the NHS, and it has mainly disappeared down the drain, there is so much wasted on bureaucracy. I only know that before Labour came to power, it was a damned sight cheaper to have dental treatment.

Irene, as regards dreams. These are influenced by what has occurred during the day, and for people to attach hidden meaning to them is a load of twaddle. On more than one occasion, I have woken up after a dream, and gone back to sleep and induced myself to carry on with the same dream. This meaning of dreams nonsense is just another extension of superstition in general. Another example is people believing that dire consequences will follow just because cutlery has become crossed on the table, or the salt cellar has been knocked over, spilling a small amount of salt. Live in the twenty first century, not the middle ages. :D :D :D :D
