I thought that for Christians Christmas was all about your saviours birth, you seem to have a very mercenary attitude and attach rather a lot of importance to gifts. (Honestly, NO offence meant). Personally, I don't have much time for religion of any type, too much trouble has been caused over the years, so my views in many respects should be more materialistic, but I am not even bothered whether or not I receive gifts. We will see that the children have gifts to open up, but us adults are not that concerned for ourselves. To us, the main object is that it is a time for all the family to get together for a few days, something that is difficult during the working year. My wife and me will almost certainly give each other a small gift to open on the day, when the kids open their gifts, but if there is anything else that we need we will buy it during the sales. We are not sarcastic old farts, but just have much different priorities. Tell me, do you all carefully reckon up how much you are spending, and worry if it appears that one is going to get more moneys worth than another? We have a couple of friends who are like that.Rest assured that we will all enjoy Christmas when we get together as a family, and we will also enjoy getting together with friends for a meal on New years eve. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You just asked someone what gifts he was hoping for. To me, this is the wrong attitude. Our kids have asked us what we want for Christmas, and in all honesty there really is nothing that we want them to spend their money on, especially at a time when prices are likely to be at a premium. We would much prefer that they spend whatever they can afford on their own children. Our pleasure is seeing the grandkids faces on Christmas morning. I seem to remember that in an earlier thread you asked if we had all finished our Christmas shopping, and mentioned that you and your wife just had to buy each other something, forgive me if I am wrong, I just can't be bothered to search right now, I have been painting woodwork all day. If I am right, then you are assuming that you have gifts to come, and to me, that is materialistic. It sounds as though you have been involved in a spending spree, again I may be assuming incorrectly, but to me there is no big rush, I can soon pop into a shop and buy a small gift for everyone, it really is no big deal. I am simply looking forward to a family get together, this year at my sons house. We will take the wine and a bottle or two of something stronger.
