Irene
How important does a person, have to be before considered assassinated instead of just murdered?Assasination is the murder of a 'prominent' figure.Assassination is the murder of a political figure.[1] An added distinction, among assassination and other forms of killing is that the assassin has an ideological or political motivation, though many assassins (especially those not part of an organisation) also demonstrate insanity; other motivations are money (contract killing), revenge, or a military operation. The assassination euphemism targeted killing (extrajudicial execution) also is used for government-sanctioned killing of opponents.[2] 'Assassination' itself, along with terms such as 'terrorist' and 'freedom fighter', may in this context be considered a loaded term, as it implies an act where the proponents of such killings may consider them justified or even necessary.[2]Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought by another. Murder is generally distinguished from other forms of homicide by the elements of malice aforethought and the lack of lawful justificationQuotes from Wikipedia. :D
-pops-
Assassin derives from an Arabic word "Hashishin". The Hashishin were a secret Muslim order in the 11th Century who saw it as their duty to terrorise and kill Christians. At first glance, one would be hard-pressed to find a link between pleasure and the acts of assassins. Such was not the case, however, with those who gave us the word assassin. They were members of a secret Islamic order originating in the 11th century who believed it was a religious duty to harass and murder their enemies. The most important members of the order were those who actually did the killing. Having been promised paradise in return for dying in action, the killers, it is said, were made to yearn for paradise by being given a life of pleasure that included the use of hashish. From this came the name for the secret order as a whole, an, "hashish users." After passing through French or Italian, the word came into English and is recorded in 1603 with reference to the Muslim Assassins. There's a certain familiarity contained within that quote thus:a religious duty to harass and murder their enemies. The most important members of the order were those who actually did the killing. Having been promised paradise in return for dying in action, the killers, it is said, were made to yearn for paradiseFrom click here (I knew the first bit, though :) )

I wonder when the virgins were introduced to replace the hashish? Perhaps it was done by the Thuggees to make it even more appealing.
