I would never have a real Christmas tree in the house again, much too risky as a fire hazard. For our first Christmas in our first house we had a real tree. After Christmas I took it into the garden and put some screwed up newspaper underneath it and struck a match to set fire to it. Just before the flame even touched the newspaper, there was a whoosh, and the tree exploded into flame, singeing my eyebrows.
