doug Posted January 13, 2008 Report Share Posted January 13, 2008 Have succumbed to management insisting on getting a decorator in to do my study - tragedy! So been sorting things out, and found some that I haven't been able to locate for ages, including my MS$ Office and PSP 8 installation disks. So bulk of the furniture and PC peripherals have been moved elsewhere, just running on absolute minimum at the moment. This morning I thought I'd do another backup in spite of having done one yesterday morning. Plugged the external HDD in and zilch - dead as a Dodo. Panic! Did a couple of checks and found that the supply unit was dead, at least as far as my test meter was concerned while the charger for a similar unit was OK. As the specs were slightly different I wasn't going to take any chances, I was going to Curries anyway to pick something else up. Took the unit back, no quibble they would change it there and then. Hold on I said it's got all my life on it can you not just swap the supply unit. OK was told and they swapped it over tested the whole unit and gave me a fresh receipt/warranty.So tomorrow pm will be switching off and removing the rest of the PC upstairs, dismantle the desk - it's a semi surround one and doing a final vacuum. Decorator arrives 08:00 to 08:30 Tuesday. Got to take management out that day and will be back late. Then have only got Wednesday Morning to get everything back before 3 yr old G'son comes for a couple of days. I used the attic room for a studio and just have the PC in a corner downstairs in the 'spare bedroom'. The bed in there comes down from a wall inside a sort of cupboard. That will now be shelved out and hold all the painting paraphanalia. There will also be another desk top for the other computer sort of coming out of the door.The only problem with all of this is that this room is north facing and not very light for painting in. Just running with the bare minimum , only half the kit assembled - just enough to get a quick fix.
