We have our chest freezer outside the back of the bungalow. It lives in a little marine plywood "shed" with a sloping "roof", which is hinged to the wall about 4 feet of the ground.

For some reason or other I did not go to sleep as quickly as I normally do and as I lay awake I kept hearing "the pheasant" making a funny squawking noise. ("The pheasant" is a male bird that has roosted in a tree in the back corner of the garden all this winter).

About 1 o'clock this rattling noise started and It just sounded as though the pheasant had jumped onto the freezer shed top and was "doing a Fred Astaire" ...in clogs. I knew it was not that when, almost immediately, the tiles on the roof started to shake, and everything else just vibrated (with certain exceptions). It's a bit un-nerving.

We experienced a biggy in Cyprus about 15 years ago so we had a good idea what it was. It seemed that all the phones in the country must have been in use with people doing what I was doing...trying to find out.

So we did what is universally accepted as the correct procedure in these circumstances. We had a cup of tea and went back to bed.

edit:-

I must confess that I wondered at first if it was Microsoft vigorously pushing IE8.
