One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either. Quick question, on which side of your car is your fuel tank? If you are anything like me, you sometimes have to think about it – especially if there are two cars in the family and the fuel tanks are on different sides. If you hire a car – how do you know which side of the pump to pull up on.I'm going to share with you a little secret so you will no longer put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury by leaning out of the window to try and see the filler flap. If you look at your fuel gauge, you will see a small icon of a fuel pump. The handle of the fuel pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right. It is that simple.We have an Audi and a Toyota which have fuel tanks on opposite sides and the trick works with both of them. I suspect however a flood of replies from people who can prove me wrong, perhaps someone has a 1936 Jaguar with the fuel filler in the middle of the car behind the number plate - or one with fuel fillers on both sides. Thinking how much it would cost to fill these days makes my head spin.Ford Corsair had a central tank with the fuel cap behind the rear number plate.
