AlanHo
Why do people keep running over a piece of cotton or string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance? Watchful
I pick them up first by hand as they can wrap around the roller and mess it up

It's just that I was doing some cleaning yesterday and found myself doing exactly that. Afterwards I thought "what the heck (or something similar) ... did I do that for" - so came here for some wise advice.Pushkin probably has the best solution - spend the first hour crawling on all fours all over the floors looking for strands before you use the Vacuum cleaner...... Watchful
:D I don't go to those lengths but if it is long and I can see it from a standing position then I pick it up. Also any other large pieces of material as I've experienced vacuum cleaners getting clogged with foreign objects in all my years of cleaning Prevention is better than cure. catgate
I do not mind what you do. Alan, as long as you do not do what management does. When the turbo head gets thoroughly tangled up with hair, string, ,thread etc she passes it over to me. Watchful
I remember when our younger daughter was at home with her very thick, long blonde hair, it was always siezing-up the vacuum cleaner and it was so tough. If her name was Rapunzel she could easily have made a rope out of it
Irene
As you can see from my avatar photos, my hair used to be long. At a later time than those photos, it even reached my waist at the back. One of the worst problems was the plug-hole in the shower or bath after washing my hair. I found that a small filter which covered the opening very useful. :D
