I went through this exercise a couple of days ago, and all suppliers were cheaper than EDF, with British Gas as the cheapest for our circumstances and usage. I telephoned them and was told that they had not increased prices recently, and she did not know at that stage when and if prices would be increased. She offered me a fixed price contract for 18 months, but higher than current prices. If you want to get out of this contract because prices come down you have to pay a penalty of approximately £50. None of the other suppliers at that stage that I contacted had increased prices. it is therefore best policy to hang fire for the time being. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tankus Posted July 31, 2008 Report Share Posted July 31, 2008 I had a condenser gas combi in my last house , a Bosch job , best thing I ever had , on demand hot water , If the shower was on full , the water came out with such force it hurt , and you had to be careful where the head was pointing ..god ..felt sooo clean ......, if the washing machine kicked in when someone was in the shower , there weren't any screams from a temp drop or sudden burn ......house was toasty too Now Ive got a poxy all electric economy 7 set up with a tank and electric storage radiators full of bricks... heating has to be planned 24 hours ahead and once charged you cannot turn the heat off ,they stay hot for about 14hrs , I can piss with more force than my shower can supply , and full bath will wipe out the tank, just about leaving enough for a tepid bowl for washing up , the system is utter pants ...its not very economical either ....I cant have gas god .... I so miss my combi .... Ive had a plumber quote me , for a more powerful sump pump under the bath , and an independent heater just for the shower (£750) , but there's a clause in my lease about piddling around with the plumbing , so I have to get permission first ...think I will---------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDF are putting in a bit for our nooks ..£12bn approx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can save pounds by changing. They are now by far the most expensive yet again, and will still almost certainly be so after all the others have applied their increase.It was a Worcester Bosch Condensing Combi which was fitted.The only draw back for me, is that every time I turn on the hot tap and hear the boiler whoosh into action, I turn the tap off immediately! :lol: ... maybe that's 'part and parcel' of the economy. I've sussed what the problem was , Its my economy 7 water tank..... Ive found that I only need to switch it on for about 1 hour late at night , rather than leave it on economy all the time (turns off automatically at standard rate ) ....big difference in total running costs .....£1.10 per day not to bad ....
