But not everything is owned by foreign countries. We still own the British national debt. And, what is more, due to prudent management, it is, like the profit of the foreign companies that own our industries and businesses, growing.magnificently.

So that's why EDF energy need to raise it's prices

Gordon Brown could do with the £4 billion 'cut' to help fill his black hole

EDF gas went up 22% today ...other suppliers to follow

I'm also with EDF energy and was thinking of looking for a cheaper deal but I wonder if there's any point as the other energy companies are bound to follow suit and raise their prices as well

I have just seen one of Gay Gorden's Merry Men on telly telling us how they were going to be supportive and give us old farts another £50 to cover increased winter fuel cost How they were going to "introduce more modern technologies" and all that sort of tired and worn out clap trap that they have paddled for the last few years.

What he never mentioned was an investigation into why the energy companies have been making higher and higher profits as oil prices have risen. I suspect that if the price continues to rise as it is doing they will make all the profit they want from about six customers.

There is no doubt people have cut back, consequently there is no doubt that the power people are selling less power. But their profits are rising. Recent company profit reports confirm this .

...and inspite of all this "we are going to introduce more modern technologies" presumably so that we can use even less power and the foreign owned companies can continue to take vast amounts of Olde Englyshe Poundes to their off shore bank accounts.

Of course Gay Gordon and his Merry Men will no doubt get an "appreciation".

interestingly BG have stated that they are currently operating on a 2% margin , that's real borderline , and profits are down nearly 70% to £166m ...... Centrica who supply BG estimate there's another 30% hike working its way through the system before the end of the year.....

hey cats ..if you think that the governments heating bonus is going to keep pace.... think again ..... If a few extra coffin dodgers die of hypothermia this winter , thats a bit less money being paid out of the national pension pot ....Plus the NHS will save over a reduced number of bed blockers, as the dodgers are a large portion of this ...

...we are getting closer and closer to soylent green ..innit , when tha' broon talks about his green policy , I'm pretty sure its not your carbon footprint hes concerned about , its to your calorific value hes more interested in .!...there is a food shortage in the third world yah know ....poverty in africa /child poverty/poverty in our time ..yaddah yaddhah ......

.... think of the export revenue , bet tha' broon has ....! hes getting on with the job ...! his job ...your job

there's tasty isn't it !

I have no expectation of anything, Tamkus.. My philosophy has always been that there is no one who has more interest in my welfare than I have, and there is no one, other than me, that has the responsibility for it.

What makes me wild is "the system" where the state claims it knows best and removes from me the means with which I could make provision for myself and then spends it on things which are of use only to keep the ruling party in power.

The "promised" £50 is about as much use as a fart in a bottle as far as I am concerned. I hate to think what our LPG gas is going to cost us this next winter. I am seriously thinking about sinking a heat exchanger in the back garden.

The trouble is that until a few years ago, we were self sufficient with gas, but now north sea gas is diminishing meaning that we have to import more gas and are subject to the volatility in the gas markets :(

Yep, I just heard them say that they import 40% of our gas

We recently replaced our water/central heating boiler with a 'Combi'.

It is certainly proving to be infinitely more efficient....

Good job in view of the recent price increases.

I hope that it was a condensing combi, they are by far the most economical.

Gas Boilers - Gas Combi Boilers, Gas Condensing Combi Boilers

Condensing combi boilers provide central heating by circulating hot water through radiators and under floor heating circuits.

These high efficiency boilers provide instantaneous hot water only when a hot water tap, shower, washing machine or dishwasher is turned on, alleviating the need for bulky hot water cylinders and cold water storage tanks.

The high efficiency of these boilers is achieved by recycling and abstracting the heat from the exhaust gases where, in non-condensing boilers, the heat present in the exhaust gases is wasted to the atmosphere.

Taken from here.
