Belatucadrus Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 Not sure why OpenOffice isn't working, but the only way I can get a look similar to what you describe is using Page Preview if this is it, you can click on the "Close Preview" button or look for a button in the standard toolbar showing a printer with a magnifying glass in front of it. That's really the best I can do to describe it. Don't really get why it done that though.Ooh. Might have a look at AbiWord. B)Incidentally several years ago (10 ish) I found an office programme on a magazine cover CD (Windows Format probably). It was called Tiny Office or Small Office, or something like that,and it had in it a facility to read back to you more or less any text document. I thought I still had the CD but like lots of other things it seems to have been lost in the removal because I can not find it. I played about with it on W98 and it was quite charming. Belatucadrus Posted January 19, 2009 Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 Have a look at the lower OpenOffice taskbar at the bottom right hand edge of the window. Just to the left of the zoom slider control are three page layout icons, yours is set on the third option which is why the page is displayed the way it is. Chose the first or second option and you should get a more conventional page display. Not sure why it should be set as it is, that isn't the default setting. I used it for years until someone gave me a copy of MS Word.A free trial version is available from CNET as part of Corel Office. The file is huge.The 2 advantages of MS Word are:1 - it is compatable with nearly all other word processors, i.e., it can be used to read their documents. But not all the others can read Word documents properly.2 - it is incredibly versatile, meaning you can insert pictures, logos, use different types of text, etc, etc. But you do need one of their manuals to learn how to do these things properly (try your local library if you can't afford to buy one).You can get a free trial version of Office 7 (which includes Word) from MS I believe.
