So explain to me the difference between this and all the shooting, stabbing, fighting, robbery "games" and TV programmes. They all trivialise and "normalise" evil behaviour and yet they are just accepted without so much as a Mary Whitehouse from anyone.

They are truly not accepted by me. I have said for years now that many games on these x-boxes and Wii games consoles are making criminals out of kids. Some of them think that what they play on these gadgets, linked with what they see on TV, is really what goes on outside in normal life. I know it's down to the individual kid and the way he thinks e.g. If he realises it's just a game and life is not really like that then he will probably lead a normal life. On the other hand if a kid thinks that life is what these games have been based on then it will more than likely be heading for a life full of trouble. It's like the kid that tried to steal a Boeing 737 from an airport. When he was found in the cockpit he told the security men that he could fly it no problem as he had flown one on his computer. This kid had actually started the engines using all the correct switches as set out in the computer game. Kids around here think they are all Rally drivers. The evidence is by the road side where all the holes in the hedge rows are. Just because Jim Clark was born and lived here doesn't make them racing champions, but you try and tell the kids that. Oh, Did I mention Louise Aitken-Walker has the Esso Garage here as well. :(

4 years ago I spent 3 weeks in Birmingham Crown Court as foreman of the jury on a murder case where a young father was accused of shaking his baby with such force it caused fatal brain injuries.

We were subjected to a procession of expert witnesses giving their opinions about the precise brain injuries and their possible causes. You needed a PhD in medical science to fully comprehend it all. The final outcome was a hung jury - the judge would have accepted 10 to 2 but we were 9 to 3 - only 3 people believing the accused to be guilty.

After the trial it was revealed that this was the second time the guy had been tried for murder - the first trial also resulted in a hung jury. I came away convinced that it is at best difficult and at worst impossible for doctors to be absolutely sure that brain injuries are necessarily the result of shaking - there are several other causes including a form of silent meningitis. I was also convinced that no normal jury stood a chance of understanding it all - some of the interpretations of the evidence and opinions expressed by my fellow jurors were unbelievable. I did some research and found that worldwide there had been quite a few cases where people had been found guilty - only later for the verdict to be reversed because of questionable diagnosis or poor evidence. I am also quite convinced that there are a number of people languishing in prison for this "offence" who are in fact absolutely innocent.

Having said all that I feel the authors of the so called game were stupid - as are those who produce violent games, films and TV programmes. catgate is absolutely right.
