catgate
The Sunday Telegraph :-The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), a former Tornado pilot, accepted that the decision would be controversial but said that such consolidation of air power was "inevitable" and added: "We have got to kill some scared cows to make ourselves more efficient". andsome
Does any of this really matter? We are not in the same position as when we ruled the waves and were the leading military country in the world. I don't see the point in all the massive spending that we are involved in. I don't really think for one moment that anyone is interested in invading us. All we need to worry about is terrorism.

Gandalph
They kill a lot more than 'scared cow's'. When I lived in St. Abbs a few years ago, our house used to look along the cliff faces. St. Abbs is one of, if not, the best Nature Reserves in Britain. Kittiwakes nest on the cliff edges without building a nest. There eggs are designed to sit on the ledge. The RAF use the area for low flying 'off the sea' exercises and when they fly over the cliffs sometimes are literally just fifty feet above them. This of course frightens the birds that are sitting the eggs and they take to the wing startled. When this happens they tend to jump off the egg the wrong way and as a result the eggs drop off the ledge to the rocks below, breaking. The birds lose hundreds, if not thousands of eggs a year. When the Wild Life Trust complained to the RAF about this all they were asked was 'Did you get the number of the aircraft'. Hardly likely when the aircraft is travelling at about 400 mph.

CurlyWhirly
All we need to worry about is terrorism.Agreed.This terrorism threat is made worse by going into war in Iraq and Afghanistan as it makes the UK more of a target.Another factor could be this governments open immigration policy.
