Us oldies are hopelessly out of touch - other than andsome of course.For example - I often see the term PM me. My RFC may have seemed like a FAQ but I am an OAP trying to GAL by using my PC to the full - OTOH ISTR lots of LOL every time I post here - but ICBW. You would be surprised - or would you - at the quality of some letters of application (especially Emails) and CV's. Appalling spelling and littered with texting lingo. These get binned straight away on the basis that the applicant must be either thick or just plain 'igorant.I suppose it will become more acceptable as time goes by and us dinosaurs make way for the next generation. andsome Posted September 3, 2003 Report Share Posted September 3, 2003 It is a sad fact that in a good many schools, English is not corrected in other papers such as History or Geography etc. I just get very irritated also with some of the Americanisms now used in every day speech. A terrible example is the misuse of the word LIKE. Instead of saying "he was annoyed", they say "he was LIKE annoyed". When referring to another persons words in a conversation, instead of saying, "he said", they say "he went".
