..........after winning a Nobel Peace prize (with the award made after he served a full 10 days in office) he has also been nominated for awards by the Academy Awards, Car and Drivers, Emmy Awards, as well as consideration for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame.

What a guy! Change has indeed come.

BTW: Why do we remain in Iraq and Afghanistan? I thought he promised a troop pullout. Those wars are on his shoulders now.

Nobel Peace Prize recipient...........'nuf said. :blink:

Every other Nobel Peace prize recipient EARNED it.

He is extending the Iraq war (which he now owns) and the Afghanistan war (which he also now owns). No need to bring Bush into the discussion as Barack now owns and controls these wars. So how has he earned the award? :blink:

The bashing should be directed to the Nobel Peace Prize selection committee.

I am truly amazed at the total silence of comments from forum members on this slap in the face to Nobel Peace Prize recipients who actually earned and deserved the award. :blink:

So..........do you think Obama was deserving of the award?

Would you have been upset over W being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after he only served 10 days in office? I would have as would most folks as they are upset over the recent award to Obama, including liberals.

Do you think Obama earned and deserved a Nobel Peace Prize after only 10 or so days in office? Does he deserve one now? Please explain.

Our opinions of Obama are influenced by what we read in the press and see on TV.

I see a man who was elected president of the most powerful nation on earth against the odds - being black and promising radical change. He inherited from Bush unpopular wars that most Brits feel the UK was dragged into by a totally dishonest portrayal by our leaders of the true situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our PM Blair was generally regarded as Bush's poodle and did what he was either told or what he considered Bush expected of him.

Obama seems to have started well, considering his inheritance, and is trying to put right the warmongering and fiscal wrongs of the last 8 years. Of course he has not achieved peace - but he is doing more than any other World leader to develop a more peaceful world. The award of the peace prize has put the spotlight on his policies and is evidence that people outside the USA see a ray of hope that the USA, at long last, has learned the lesson that you cannot achieve peace by just military might.

I consider that the award symbolises our collective belief that the USA has changed course for the better and will now play its part in achieving a more peaceful World. Hopefully it will stimulate the USA into starting to dismantle its war machine. For that reason the award is entirely justified.

You should not be surprised that your post has not received a blast of comment from other members. What is there to say when we all live in a World where we are fed news masquerading as truth, are led by greedy selfish chancers and have become collectively cynical about the political goings on in the World.

It is hard to see how bringing peace to Iraq, Afghanistan or anywhere else is going to make much difference to the daily life of the average UK citizen - so why should we get excited about it...?

Frankly, I am more concerned about Obama's announcement that he wants to change the US policy about gay rights - both in the military and about gay marriage. I can see in this signs of a slippery slope where what is made permissable eventually becomes compulsory....... :rolleyes:

We don't know who the other 204 nominees are/were, so he may just have been the best of the lot?

No - it is far too left wing for me - not only that - the sports section is rubbish and the obituaries are a touch saddening. I find all newspapers off-putting because all they seem to do is to concentrate on the World's miseries, negative news and the celebrity culture. It is a classic case of the bigoted blind trying to exercise influence over the bewildered blinded.

I find that quoting newspaper arguments is sterile and pointless? - it's a bit like schoolkids arguing that "my dad is bigger than your dad".

Perhaps there is no truth in my "Thought for Today" about quotes. Click here

I have made my case that Obama did not deserve the award with facts. He even stated he did not deserve it or earn it. You have your heals dug in (regardless of the facts) and will not accept those facts provided. Your only input in this thread has been an attack of the messenger rather than discussing the issue presented. One other member here has decided to take that same approach.

So who is really presents the sterile, juvenile and pointless argument Alan? :rolleyes:

I have no wish to argue with you. You are as entitled to your opinions as I am to mine no matter how ridiculous either are. If you look back through the forum archives you will see that I have hardly ever participated in any of the political debates.

I take little notice of what appears in the media - especially the political stuff. It is rarely just factual - but biased to present the opinions of political writers with their own agenda.

In the great scheme of things the Nobel Prizes count for nothing and it is of no more importance that Obama has won one than it would be my uncle Fred.

Ask the people who matter in this affair - the ones under sufferance in the Middle East, Far East et cetera. They will have never heard of Alfred Nobel or his prizes but, it is guaranteed that they will have heard the results of his efforts. Alfred Nobel, in case you don't know, was the inventor of the most widely used destroyer of peace in the world - dynamite.

Was it his conscience and guilt that led him to donate money towards the promotion of a "Peace Prize"?

Obama is blair light with a tan ...sez a lot ...looks pretty on TV....... but when it comes to the final rub ...he will have taken you all to the cleaners ...twice over ....and achieved very little , other than a greatening disunity ...a hardening of barriers ....too much was/is expected from him ........ Its not enough to be a different colour just as the sole selling point .........needs some meat .......

frankly if the US foundation has named Gordon Brown world statesman of the year .... I'm pretty sure anything is possible ... Reality exceeds surreality to become the norm ..pablo picasso politics ....the world is our lobster and elvis has just served me another cocktail (looks like him)............ but Im sooooooooo mellow ...... kebabs fer dinner tonight ....pork ones

mickey mouse for prez next time .... and we get pluto ...... "Im lurvin it" ..!
