AlanHo Posted October 23, 2009 Report Share Posted October 23, 2009 I have discovered that Acronis version 2009 is flaky with the now released Windows 7 Home Premium.Browsing other forums reveals I am not alone and I have ordered the 2010 version of Acronis from the subscribers link at the top of the WF forum home page. The main reason being that I would not be able to run Office 2000, and would also need a new graphics card. Following on from that, I found on line that Office 2000 will not run on W 7 home version, a more expensive O/S is required. My graphics adaptor will not run Windows Aero user interface whatever that means. I would need to check for an update. I would still not be able to run Office 2000 on the home edition. I have several projects saved in MS Publisher and need these for my bowls clubs. I too would needs to buy a new version of Acronis. This Win 7 RC version is labelled as "Ultimate", so I can't yet speak for the Home Premium version - but all the necessary bits to build my new box are on their way so I should be able to give you a definitive answer by Sunday evening :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I like a bit of controversy, that's why I posted disparaging remarks about W 7 some time ago. If I can install Office 2000 Premium onto W 7 than I will do so. If so - install the rest of your software and you will then be one happy bunny using a superb OS.If not - let Acronis put things back to the way they were, return to the comfort of XP and either dispose of your cheap Windows 7 Disc (or keep it because sooner or later you are going to have to change).It will take up half a day of your time - but is the only way you will ever be sure.Best of luck. During the installation process there is a tick box which asks whether you want to activate it immediately. You say NO. You then have 30 days grace before you activate it manually.If you don't activate it you can sell it on - it is treated as never having been installed. The only drivers I had to install were for my Xonar sound card and the Canon scanner, everything else was picked up and the appropriate drivers installed.However I did go to the ATI site and installed the latest graphics drivers.I also installed some games I have had for 10 years and they all run with no problems. -pops- Posted October 29, 2009 Report Share Posted October 29, 2009 Before you go to the expense of Acronis, think about the new Windows backup which is reportedly much improved over previous versions and quite adaptable in where it saves backups.I've done my first backup on the W7 version but not had chance to look at it further yet. I tried to install version 9 on th e trial version of W7 and it seemed OK at first - but developed an occasional habit of refusing to start taking a back up after I had entered all the required info. It just sat there and ignored my attempts to get it to start.I then bought the latest version and uninstalled the previous one just in case any bugs remained. I haven't installed Windows 7 yet but I intend doing so at the weekend (when i've got more time) - I want a dual boot setup as I want to keep my existing Vista installation. I hoped to provoke discussion. As soon as it was available, I ordered it. So far after finding it quite different at first, I quite like it. I am not very keen on the Control Panel, I prefer the XP version. One other point that I have not sorted yet is System Restore, there does not seem to be an option to actually make a restore point yourself.
