Is this really happening in the UK? It's unbelievable. You seem to have the Thought Police everywhere, or is just the media making it up?

You really would not believe the stupid so called politically correct things that are happening more and more often in this country. My Granddaughters school no longer has a Christmas play, they have an annual pupils play. This year it was a musical, about a fictional school, and last year it was a musical version of Dracula.censored.gif

What do you think now Dencandy? there are more than likely dozens more such examples out there. many broadcasters will no longer refer to a chairman or chairwoman, but insist on introducing a person as a CHAIR. Just how ridiculous is this?censored.gif

It really does seem crazy. I personally am dead against racism, sexism, homophobia and any other damaging prejudice. But what you are now experiencing in the UK really does seem to have got completely out of hand and just seems to be intended to make work for the PC Police and to generally create an atmosphere of intimidation and "Big Sibling is Watching You".

One of the ways to make people "pliable" and controllable is to instil into them a feeling of guilt. The churches cottoned on to this very early on. Invent a "sin" and preach against it. If you could get the sinner into a little box and confess better still....well..., you had him by the dangly bits.

The churches even dreamed up "forgiving fines". You could even have prepaid fines that they called "indulgences", a bit like having MP after your name. Even if the "sin" was never discovered it did not matter, because the "sinner" would know he had "sinned" and would then be fearful of being found out.

So, the majority of the legislation brought in over the last dozen years has been of this type and all the "security" and "speed" cameras, all the policing methods, all the propaganda have had the twin aims of inculcating sin (and its attendant "pliable obedience") and collecting fines, whilst those with MP after their name are covered by the "indulgences" bought for them out of the public's pocket.

I fully agree with most of the above. I do however see the need for speed limits in built up areas. No matter how good a driver a person is, it is a fact that children particularly, and even adults at times can step out into the path of traffic, and if that traffic is travelling at high speed on an estate road, the consequences can be tragic.smile.gif

Nonsense.

If a child steps out into a road, or an adult for that matter, why is the driver to blame?

When we were children our parents were responsible for our upbringing and education. They taught us how to walk and how to avoid walking into doors and also to walk on the pavements and why.

Drvers are tested to find out if they have sufficient capability to drive safely.

Children are not tested for walking, anywhere, They are no taught road safety in school, despite being taught about sex and contraception, which are statistically a lower risk (or are they these days?). They are not even taught that playing in the road, even in an estate, is a totaly unaccebtable form of behaviour.

The government is allowing recreation grounds and playing fields to be built on without any concern for replacements, and any other available space is covered with TESCOs.

Where the children should play is debatable in these days. However that is not the business of the driver, it is more the business of the conceivers, and maybe some of the commonsense missing from Westminster.

Traffic should not be travelling at high speeds in an estate, or anywhere else where it is not safe to do so. Drivers are charged with driving with due care and attention at all times and so if a child or adult does something silly there is no logic in holding the driver responsible for something which may well have been out of his control.

The logical way to deal with this situation is to separate the pedestrians from the traffic by means of railings and bridges/tunnels/lights. But this will never happen now because the ethos of "the drivers must be controlled and punished", which started by the squirachy who were frightened of their horses bolting, has continued to flourish due to its revenue possibilites and its above mentioned "artificial sin" creation. Of course there is also the foolish legal situation where real meaningfulpunishment has ceased to exist for serious offences such as dangerous driving.

Instead of banning for life a slap on the wrist and a donation of olde englyshe poundes is deemed sufficient.....the driver may be a party supporter or even a Minister of the Crown.

What happened to my post.angry.gif

Did the "Thought Police" object.

It seems like some members can post what they want, and others not.censored.gif

Wrong conclusion... http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=43533&view=findpost&p=304026

I think these posts were before that, my apologies if I am wrong

I read all the posts before they were lost as a result of the restore of an older back-up - my opinion is that it is a good thing that they are gone.

This is by and large a friendly forum and hopefully we will keep it that way.

Here, Here!!

I am not sure what they were, but it sounds as though they are are well and truely done & dusted. :)

Under a section entitled "Words and phrases to avoid" the guidelines state: "Don't slip into jargon by thinking that's how it 'ought to' be said. We are trying to get away from agency speak. Think of our customers out there on the network.

Do as I say not as I do.

By "our customers" they mean "those sad souls who we are bleeding dry, and by "network" they mean the ill maintained traffic clogged channels of communication carrying people, goods and information across this sorry land.
